[history]
February 24, 2004 -- WASHINGTON - The Pentagon has dispatched the elite commando force that hunted down Saddam Hussein to Afghanistan for a new operation aimed at getting Osama bin Laden, officials said yesterday. Military sources confirmed that members of the shadowy Task Force 121, the unit that conducted the high-tech search for Saddam and his henchmen, have recently begun operating in the remote mountainous region along the Afghanistan-Pakistan border where bin Laden and key al Qaeda and Taliban fugitives are believed to be hiding. The Task Force is made up of highly trained Delta and SEAL commandos, as well as CIA paramilitary operators. It operates outside normal military channels.

Your point is well taken. However, I don't think they have to detonate one, or even have one in order to achieve some magnitude of success. Their stated intentions coupled with their past actions, and our perceptions and responses to those intentions and actions, are in fact achieving a slow and deleterious effect on our economy. While it may not currently be obvious to most, there have been counter effects already to our economy and they will continue to worsen as long as the relentless and credible AQ threats continue. So whether they ever actually do successfully complete an attack or not, they are achieving some degree of success.

Passenger Ferry Is on Fire Near Manila
Thursday February 26, 2004 6:46 PM
MANILA, Philippines (AP) - A passenger ferry was on fire early Friday near Manila, and rescue vessels were dispatched, the coast guard said. There were no immediate reports of casualties.
Radio station DZRH reported 717 passengers were on board the Superferry 14, traveling from Manila to the central city of Bacolod.
Coast guard Apprentice Jess Galicah told The Associated Press that the fire was reported around 1 a.m. off Bataan province. The cause and severity were not immediately known.
Galicah said the ship had a capacity of 1,672 passengers.

Since in an emergency, like you said, Indie, the rules will not apply, I wonder if I can go ahead and teach myself some ham radio operation and buy a ham radio set up to use. Without going the cumbersome and lengthly legal route at this time (getting licensed, etc.) What do you both think?

There was an explosion in Manila yesterday too according to homelandsecurityus.com.
MANILA. Fire triggers blasts at Philippine national police headquarters. A fire at the Philippine national police headquarters triggered a series of blasts in a building housing explosives and ammunition on Wednesday, said police. Police officials said there was no immediate reports on casualties and the cause of the fire that set off the explosions was yet to be known.

That is why the Red Cross was allowed in to see him. To counter that propaganda.

Just arrived and am trying to catch up! It looks like I've missed quite a bit since last evening!

Looks like they pretty much covered it all!

Hi JP! Just trying to catch up with you all. Anything horrific I should be aware of?

I think it is a bad idea. I've been doing emergency services on Amateur Radio since 1976. The last thing we need is lots of illegal, unlicensed and unskilled people jumping on top of otherwise well practiced emergency network operations. Getting a license is not that hard. Five year olds have done it. If you really want to get involved, take the time to get the license AND take time to practice your skills via community service projects with other local ham operators. Practice and be an asset to the emergency services rather than a source of problems.

"Police are investigating the death of a man found in the Hudson River wearing scuba gear."
Hmm. My inital thought: Those Ukrainean pilots who died after delivering their mysterious "cargo"
Do people go scuba diving at this time of the year, in that location?

Daleel does not seem to be familar with Arabic. Daleel uses very, very little of it. If he/she is well versed in Arabic, he/she is hiding it when they use the Daleel name to post. A few of us Freepers can get you the English posts of Daleel, if that would be helpful to you. Although most posts from Daleel are already here on this thread.

Power plant/ Nuclear/ Scuba/ Water/ North...divide US into 3 parts- Cave of Darkness-all of this does seem to mesh.

Oops, forget my prior post to you. I just realized you were inquiring about the good Dr.'s messages, not those of Daleel. I think there is an audio link for at least one speech over at IH; I will see if I can find it for you. Who knows, a transcript may be available by now as well.

Hi! Yes, that frogman picture has bothered me ever since I saw it. Also, remember those 2 pictures of NYC- one with OBL standing in the city, the second with OBL looking down from above. Remember that the vantage point was---from the water.

Re: Recruitment. This reminded me of something. I read that they like to use internet cafes and coffeeshops. Guess who I met in an internet cafe-was there every single day- until that first message came out. The Arabic/French translator.

Daleel lamely posted a followup the other day on his idea for the attack time period: he said it was from now until the election. LOL! His reasoning is that the Dr. addresses GWB and since GWB may not be reelected, the attack must take place before the election. LOL! I think we all could have guessed as much.
