"We're practicing the law as now defined by the state constitution, which says that all of our citizens are protected by equal rights," Lynch said. Restricting marriage to unrelated heterosexual couples, does not violate anyone's rights. Everybody has an equal right to marry a person of the opposite sex.

As much as I hate to say it, this is going to take a constitutional amendment to fix this problem.

Perhaps, he'd care to delay his ruling in a drunk driving case, or a kidnapping case? WTF is he waiting for, poll numbers to TELL him what to do? A LAW, IS A LAW, IS A LAW.

City officials have argued that the equal protection clause of the California Constitution makes denying marriage licenses to gay couples illegal. If that's what they really think, then the proper starting point is to challenge the law, and if proven right, then repeal it - not to start breaking it first and arguing against it later. Otherwise, they open the door for anyone with a brain to be able to use the same argument for breaking any other law.

A great time to be a yacht salesman in San Francisco. There are going to be a lot of rich lawyers by the time this is over with (if ever).

Calling all decent people to get out of San Francisco now! Don't look back or you will turn into salt. SF is gonna have a 8.5 before the end of the month. The symbolism will be lost on the survivors.

I cannot belive that this gay thing is just breaking out now like wildfire in other states and of course the liberal judges wont stop it. VA just passed a law today that allows gays to have health ins together and buy houses with each other. I thought VA was a conservative republican state.
What is going on??
This is SO out of hand the gays are chipping away at all family values and the liberal RATS judges are allowing it and Bush said today he will intervene when necessary, we need to tell him it is vital now not just necessary.
This is sickening.
Everyone, please send an email to President Bush telling him that now is the time to act and to put a stop to all of this.

Hundreds of same-sex couples lined up for blocks in heavy rain outside of San Francisco City Hall, Monday, Feb. 16, 2004. I have a SERIOUS problem with a Mayor using his authority to mount a Constitutional challenge.
How would the people cheering this Mayor feel if another Mayor was an ardent 2nd Amendment believer and starting handing out guns in from of the airport to passengers?
Civil disobedience to set up a test case I understand, but this is a blatant abuse of the authority of the Mayor. It needs to be stopped before we have government officials all over the country doing whatever they feel like with no respect for the law.
