Harold Ford Threatens GOP Over Fonda-Kerry Photo
NewsMax.com ^ | 2/11/04 | Carl Limbacher and NewsMax.com Staff

Rep. Harold Ford, D-Tenn., who was one of Democratic presidential front-runner John Kerry's earliest backers in Congress, went ballistic Wednesday morning when asked about the photo published Monday by NewsMax.com showing Kerry demonstrating against the Vietnam war with "Hanoi" Jane Fonda.

"Don't bring that up," an angry-sounding Ford told "Fox & Friends" co-host Steve Doocy.

Referring to the controversy over President Bush's military record, Ford threatened to "revive this thing on the National Guard" if questions about Kerry's Jane Fonda connection persist.

The Tennessee Democrat attempted to defend Kerry's decision to team up with Fonda after she adopted his group, Vietnam Veterans Against the War, as her leading cause.

"For someone who went over there and almost gave his life, [Kerry] pretty much can say whatever the heck he wants to say, in my book," he told "Fox & Friends."

But in an audio clip played by top radio host Rush Limbaugh Wednesday afternoon, Ford continued to seethe over the photo picturing his candidate with the Vietnam War traitor.

"If you want to show pictures of him with Jane Fonda and other things, then the president ought to produce all the evidence [about his Guard service]," he railed.

Although it was not clear whether he was speaking for Kerry, Ford offered to cut a deal in a bid to halt discussion over Kerry's relationship with "Hanoi" Jane.

"I'm willing to put all of [Bush's Guard record] aside and not bring any of that up ... but you better do the same with John Kerry," proposed Ford. "It's clear where [Kerry] was [during the early 1970s] And at this moment it's unclear where the president was."

The congressman urged the GOP to keep its focus on the issues that are important to America's future rather than rehashing irrelevant details from Sen. Kerry's past.

""Stop showing the picture or we'll shoot the dog."

National Lampoon paraphrase ... right?

"Nobody move ... or the n****r gets it!"

Please people don't urge your fellow Freepers to bolt to the Patriot, Constitition, or whatever party. Otherwise we'll get 8 years of Kerry and 8 more of Hillary.

Kerry in his younger days was quite a chick magnet. Shame he hasn't aged so well.

NewsMax is running the PhotoShop-ed Kerry-Fonda composite of the photos in #233, and is passing it off as authentic.

<rant>
Thus, at best, NewsMax believed the caption ("AP Photo)" and failed to perform due diligence in a rush to put the photo and story online. At worst, NewsMax knew it was a fake, and decided to join the ranks of tabloid carnival barkers like The National Enquirer.

Either way, NewsMax has earned a prominent spot on my sh*t list. I expect to distrust leftist "news" organizations. But, when an allegedly conservative one pulls a boner like this, it gives aid and comfort to the leftists.

I also lay the blame directly on the person who created the composite. When you do that, you really need to make it obvious that it's a parody. Otherwise, you might as well be trying to smear conservatives as liars, because that's what it ultimately does.
</rant>

Just my two-cents' worth.

That guy behind Hanoi Jane with the sun glasses looks like Brad Pitt. Humor aside, its amazing how many people don't know about Kerry's anti war days. You mention that to a Rat and they automatically say its a right wing conspiracy.

Well, I see NewsMax has removed all evidence of that front page blunder.

Idiots.

Kerry in his younger days was quite a chick magnet.

Think so? The photos I've seen remind me of the boy with the elephant-man facial deformity in the movie, "Mask" (Cher starred in it, if that helps).

Oh, well. I'm certainly no expert on chick magnets.

Those Kerry pictures remind me of my college days and the hippie wannabees. They wanted to dress shabby and grow their hair out, but if they did Pop wouldn't be willing to pay their way and they would be come 1-A status. (Kerry was probably paying his way after VN service but I suspect he followed the counterculture just enough that the smell didn't rub off on him.).

Ford said Kerry's hundreds of
Senate votes can't be used either
'cause the election must only be
about the future.

^^
I didn't see the interview. You're making a joke, right?

If this doesn't slow Kerry down, what next? I don't know, but I am sure there is a next.

Less then 24 hours after I posted the above, we now know what "next" is (which is more then we know what a Clinton "is" is.

The latest about Kerry will slow him down but not knock him off, there will be more...
