Harold Ford Threatens GOP Over Fonda-Kerry Photo
NewsMax.com ^ | 2/11/04 | Carl Limbacher and NewsMax.com Staff

Rep. Harold Ford, D-Tenn., who was one of Democratic presidential front-runner John Kerry's earliest backers in Congress, went ballistic Wednesday morning when asked about the photo published Monday by NewsMax.com showing Kerry demonstrating against the Vietnam war with "Hanoi" Jane Fonda.

"Don't bring that up," an angry-sounding Ford told "Fox & Friends" co-host Steve Doocy.

Referring to the controversy over President Bush's military record, Ford threatened to "revive this thing on the National Guard" if questions about Kerry's Jane Fonda connection persist.

The Tennessee Democrat attempted to defend Kerry's decision to team up with Fonda after she adopted his group, Vietnam Veterans Against the War, as her leading cause.

"For someone who went over there and almost gave his life, [Kerry] pretty much can say whatever the heck he wants to say, in my book," he told "Fox & Friends."

But in an audio clip played by top radio host Rush Limbaugh Wednesday afternoon, Ford continued to seethe over the photo picturing his candidate with the Vietnam War traitor.

"If you want to show pictures of him with Jane Fonda and other things, then the president ought to produce all the evidence [about his Guard service]," he railed.

Although it was not clear whether he was speaking for Kerry, Ford offered to cut a deal in a bid to halt discussion over Kerry's relationship with "Hanoi" Jane.

"I'm willing to put all of [Bush's Guard record] aside and not bring any of that up ... but you better do the same with John Kerry," proposed Ford. "It's clear where [Kerry] was [during the early 1970s] And at this moment it's unclear where the president was."

The congressman urged the GOP to keep its focus on the issues that are important to America's future rather than rehashing irrelevant details from Sen. Kerry's past.

I should have gone one step further. If I had I would have seen this:http://www.alibris.com/search/detail.cfm?BID=8150758334&siteID=5Nv03vHgBCI-hUkAT8lRChhaSFVKREoVlg

Whoops! I'll keep searching.

If none are to be found, could someone from the Washington Times or Fox News ask Kerry to make available a copy that he surely would still have. I know, I know - he'll say it has been misplaced but I am sure that this is going to surface. My guess is W and Crew have a copy and are waiting til Kerry actually gets annointed before leaking juicy tidbits similar to the tidbits revealed today from a Harvard Crimson interview in 70 (check Drudge for link)

What about the book that kerry wrote (a different kind of soldier?) If someone has a copy, that should be splashed all over as well, particularly the picture on the front cover.

It ought to be found, digitised, put into a PDF, and onto the net. Anybody have a copy?

Harold Ford is another monument to the quota system of Affrimative Action that the Democraps are playing like a Yo-Yo, which is basically what he is! What leadership position have the Democraps promised, but not given to Harold?

Anyone that thinks the Republicans put out that photo is not paying attention. There is only one person that will benefit from this, and that is Hillary.

The Clintons did not expect Dean to fold to quick or Kerry to jump so far ahead so quick.

The problem for the Clintons is they can not control as much as they once could. As someone else has mentioned, the internet has changed the "news cycle". Information once released can be spread around the world in a matter of seconds, makeing it very difficult to "spin" it the way you want.

If this doesn't slow Kerry down, what next? I don't know, but I am sure there is a next.

We now see what all the "Bush AWOL" nonsense is about: democrats are deathly afraid of that campaign commercial that identifies Kerry with the hard left pro-communist and anti-American faction that turned off so many of us years ago. They are in effect offering to back off on a baseless smear in exchange for republicans dropping a valid issue that bears on Kerry's suitability for office today. Why shouldn't they give it a try? Fresh from their triumph with Sens. Orrin Hatch and Bill Frist over the judicial memos, it seems like a good ploy.
