Harold Ford Threatens GOP Over Fonda-Kerry Photo
NewsMax.com ^ | 2/11/04 | Carl Limbacher and NewsMax.com Staff

Rep. Harold Ford, D-Tenn., who was one of Democratic presidential front-runner John Kerry's earliest backers in Congress, went ballistic Wednesday morning when asked about the photo published Monday by NewsMax.com showing Kerry demonstrating against the Vietnam war with "Hanoi" Jane Fonda.

"Don't bring that up," an angry-sounding Ford told "Fox & Friends" co-host Steve Doocy.

Referring to the controversy over President Bush's military record, Ford threatened to "revive this thing on the National Guard" if questions about Kerry's Jane Fonda connection persist.

The Tennessee Democrat attempted to defend Kerry's decision to team up with Fonda after she adopted his group, Vietnam Veterans Against the War, as her leading cause.

"For someone who went over there and almost gave his life, [Kerry] pretty much can say whatever the heck he wants to say, in my book," he told "Fox & Friends."

But in an audio clip played by top radio host Rush Limbaugh Wednesday afternoon, Ford continued to seethe over the photo picturing his candidate with the Vietnam War traitor.

"If you want to show pictures of him with Jane Fonda and other things, then the president ought to produce all the evidence [about his Guard service]," he railed.

Although it was not clear whether he was speaking for Kerry, Ford offered to cut a deal in a bid to halt discussion over Kerry's relationship with "Hanoi" Jane.

"I'm willing to put all of [Bush's Guard record] aside and not bring any of that up ... but you better do the same with John Kerry," proposed Ford. "It's clear where [Kerry] was [during the early 1970s] And at this moment it's unclear where the president was."

The congressman urged the GOP to keep its focus on the issues that are important to America's future rather than rehashing irrelevant details from Sen. Kerry's past.

If Kerry believes he was correct in his Vietnam protests, he should want more exposure of this and other pictures like it. He is trying to have it both ways - to appear both pro and anti-military at the same time, but I don't think Americans are going to stand for a wishy-washy campaign strategy as the election grows closer. He'll have to pick one and go with it.

Let's see -- the Bush National Guard flap has been in the national news for days. The Kerry/Fonda picture hasn't discussed anywhere except for the usual places sympathetic to our side -- Fox News, Washington Times, talk radio. No, there's no bias in the media.

I see a wonderful opportunity for the anti-billboard groups.

Plaster a 50 foot blowup of this pic on every billboard in the country and billboards, as a venue of advertising, will be outlawed by nightfall.

PLUS - the peacenik libs will destroy or burn down any that aren't removed before the next morning.

They're going beserk, folks!

However, do not underestimate the power of stupid people in large groups (ie. the Democrat Party and Democrat voters).

Don't forget the Media in that group.

Vietnam Vets Against the War are still very active anti-war organization.

Is Kerry still supporting them?

That looks like the same face Kerry has today. Do you reckon he cut it off and saved it for this occassion.
In Boston they always said he was two faced.

"Almost gave his life"??? When did THIS happen? When he got Purple Hearts for his three band aid scratches? When he stupidly beached his boat and leaped off to finish off an already-wounded VC with a shot in the back? (thereby risking his entire crew for his only 'glory')

Ford is clearly ill-informed as to Kerry's REAL war record.

Hoisted by his own petard. Kerry proclaims at every opportunity the import of his Viet Nam service. He denigrates Bush’s service, and tries to make an issue of what George Bush was doing in 1971. Now, he is about to have Jane Fonda draped about his neck. He can neither claim that his radical years were too distant or unimportant, because he has criticized Bush of much lesser at the same time.

Kerry has called Bush out, charged into the corral with a BB gun, fired the first shots, ineffectually spent all his rounds, and now is staring down loaded .50 calibers.

What about the book that kerry wrote (a different kind of soldier?) If someone has a copy...

Here's a curiousity... the last copy sold on eBay -- yesterday -- went to a bidder named "MetaFreeper." Do you suppose...

Fasten your seatbelt, and hang on for dear life. You have hooked up with a LOSER and a LIAR

Ford makes it a practice of hooking up with liars (birds of a feather?) and was X42's staunchest defenders during impeachment vying with Schumer for air time at every opportunity. Just where does he get off telling a host what to bring up on their program?

Nutmeg, this guy ranks up there with Lanny and Julian Epstein on my 'wish I could slap' list, or am I repeating myself?

I wondered what possessed the Dems to make an pre-emptive 1st strike issue out of Bush's National Guard attendance, while Kerry has a sorry personal history since 1971.

It is from the First rule of farts.

When breaking wind always deflect blame away from yourself before anyone detects the aroma.
