The most viscerally upsetting of all the dems, he is not to be underestimated.

No doubt about it. He's a tough-guy. He's no Dukakis. No Dean. This is going to be a real brawl.
On our side: a 19-year public Senate record that even the liberal press is going to have a hard time spinning.

No kidding, this french looking candidate with the droaning voice could very well beat Bush. Kerry's got the ability to outspend him and distort his record until enough dimwit sheeple believe him. The media will be his accomplice, of course. All I can say is that Bush better be ready and seriously preparing for a winning strategy.

So what? John Kerry can win in a state that almost never elects Republicans? Big effing deal.

What a joke. Weld was widely viewed as not rally caring a whit about winning that election.

Could be some influential person from Massachussetts coming in to bail him out as in Mr. Chappaquiddick himself.

I was wondering if and when the story would get to Kerry's breaking of the spending limit. Of course, it's at the bottom.
I remember being angry when I heard about that - a typical Dem move, I thought. Win at all costs.
Kerry is not to be underestimated in the lengths he will go to win - breaking deals, changing his position, going dirty. Bush is personally underestimated. There is a difference, but I thought it interesting that this story tries to get the "underestimated" tag on Kerry.
I don't think the Bush campaign will underestimate what the Dems will to do win. If they do, they deserve to lose, as his father did in 1992, Dole did in 1996, and Dan Lundgren and Bill Simon did in California in 1998 and 2002. I think that was Weld's mistake, too, although I've never lived in MA.
And I thought the line "Eight lurching weeks later" was interesting. I wonder if the writer has seen side by side photos of Kerry and Lurch, or listens to Rush?

Eight lurching weeks later, Mr. Kerry won the race by eight percentage points and was being asked when he would run for president. That choice of words can't be an accident. Ha!
