SANAA, Yemen, Jan. 24 (UPI) -- A purported statement by al-Qaida in Yemen warned Saturday of a "major strike" soon in the United States.

The statement, distributed by the Yemeni Tagamoo Party for Reforms, said: "A major strike, a big event will take place in America soon," reminiscent of the Sept. 11 attacks.

My son said the very same thing last night. Kill two birds with one stone. He also thought the Russia exercise may be tied to the AQ hit- that the Russkies could be afraid some of our "automatic launch" systems would erroneously fire retaliatory missiles at them.

We had an amtrak train outside of Philly, near Coatsville- lose power. The engineer said that they couldn't figure out why their computers went down and that they couldn't restart the engine. We sat there for maybe a half hour and the power came back on. Everyone seemed very puzzled.

A full meltdown at a nuke plant would surely hit population centers. Back during 3 Mile Island, I had one eye on the Philly airport if needed. My prof was in a crew monitoring the episode. I happened to be taking a course in rad physics at that point.

There were rumors of a nuke picked up somewhere around Chicago over a year ago.

Wonder what defcon level we are at, and wonder if we would consider a preemptive strike. Course, who would we strike?

If Gertz is really running with that, I've lost alot of respect for him. consider how easy it would be for that many people to being engaging in small scale attacks inside the US daily: roadway snipers, suicide bombers at malls, hijack gasoline trucks and crash them into something, bombs on subways and mass transit system. You name it, all soft targets. That many people, even 1/10th that many people, could engage in these kinds of attacks daily and shut down the country. Imagine 20 2-man sniper team in 20 major US metro areas. Imagine a power plant being bombed every day someplace, a gasoline truck being driven into schools and malls, etc. Yet nothing happens.
