SANAA, Yemen, Jan. 24 (UPI) -- A purported statement by al-Qaida in Yemen warned Saturday of a "major strike" soon in the United States.

The statement, distributed by the Yemeni Tagamoo Party for Reforms, said: "A major strike, a big event will take place in America soon," reminiscent of the Sept. 11 attacks.

If he just went to see his mistress he would have made up an alibi for his wife, business trip or some such...something was supposed to happen that didn't.

As she conveniently ignores the proliferation of nukes and establishment of the Taliban that took place on her watch.

But , of course, she is the media darling in the west, facts of her administration be damned.

Opportunistic and when in power, impotent to challenge the military mullah complex.

But she talks the talk for TV.

Russia Tests Measures Vs. Missile Defense

By VLADIMIR ISACHENKOV, Associated Press Writer

MOSCOW - Russia is in the midst of a strategic military exercise aimed at increasing the efficiency of its nuclear deterrent and ability to penetrate missile defenses, a top general said Tuesday.

The exercise, which began in late January on the headquarters level, will later involve the launch of an unspecified number of sea- and ground-based ballistic missiles and flights by strategic bombers, said Col.-Gen. Yuri Baluyevsky, the first deputy chief of the General Staff of the Russian armed forces.

He dismissed media reports that strategic bombers would test-fire missiles over the north Atlantic but refused to comment on their flight routes.

The exercise will help develop weapons systems "capable of providing an asymmetric answer to existing and prospective weapons systems, including missile defense," Baluyevsky said at a news conference.

He dismissed media allegations that the planned exercise would closely resemble Soviet-era simulations of an all-out nuclear war with the United States, saying that it's not directed against any specific country.

"The enemy is imaginary," Baluyevsky said at a news conference. "There is no hint whatsoever that the enemy is the United States, or any other country. The United States holds a similar exercise each year and no one is making a fuss about it."

At the same time, Baluyevsky reaffirmed Russia's concern about the development of low-yield nuclear weapons in the United States, saying it destabilizes the world. He said that the Russian maneuver was a reaction to that, but added that "it's not saber-rattling."

He said the exercise was being conducted "taking into account the changes of military and other threats in the world."

He said that test-firing of ballistic missiles during the exercise was part of efforts to extend their lifetime.

Baluyevsky also dismissed media claims that the exercise was a political show aimed at bolstering President Vladimir Putin's popularity in the run-up to the March 14 presidential election, which he is expected to easily win.

"This is neither the opening of the election campaign nor a demonstration of our nuclear fist to the entire world," Baluyevsky said.

Moscow informed the U.S. government in advance of the exercise, in keeping with its arms control treaty obligations, Baluyevsky said.

Where's EOM posting these days? I thought he always said the destruction would begin in London. Change of plans?

Sorry Cal, I mispoke. It was a question and answer session with Vreeland and Michael Ruppert. I've looked at way too many sites today. Let me go back through my history and see what else I have.

AlQaeda is currently being decimated by US forces and others. They are in a panic because they are being eradicated from the face of the earth.

An American city will disappear in a mushroom cloud unless we get our act together and stop it.

This is the first virus that has hit my computer in such large numbers. I deleted 10 just today.

Let me also throw in a wildcard here. You cannot completely rule out the possibility of a rogue cell that decides to go off and do their own thing.

I agree with that one. Hopefully they are not already in the US. But I do feel like they could be.

So who do you prefer given a choice of only the two, Musharraf and her?
I find the Khan incident hardly forgivable. Are we going to have yet another regime change this Spring?

But that's just it. These cells are in large part independent of each other. They are all rogues in that sense. That is what makes them hard to fewrret out.

Yes, I did, and I found that the Vreeland story was propagated by a loon by the name of Michael C. Ruppert who is one of the worst of the Bush haters.

I round filed it as rubbish.

Musharraf, without a doubt. Only a military man can rule Pakistan effectively and to our advantage.

She can't even enter Pakistan. She lives in London.

If there is a regime change, it will be a jihadimilitary coup d'etat.

For better or worse, we're totally committed to Musharraf. There is no alternative. This coming from a guy who feels Musharraf is just a better groomed Arafat. But he's the devil we know and can be armtwisted to do what's necessary.

The Khan incident has ended two and a half years after 9.11.

He's spilling details about the network. And he gets to keep his billions. That's the price for his info.
If Khan was jailed or fined, Musharraf would be overthrown.

"In any event, the poster "poohbah", who claims to have some working knowledge on these nuclear devices was pinged to this thread and asked if these devices, in light of their age, would still be functional. His rather succinct answer was "no"."

They are to my knowledge maintenance intensive to keep them operational. If OBL/al-Zawahiri secured technical support (readily available in the former-USSR and elsewhere for a price) then they could have several operational devices.

I know. I also think some of them will attack at will. When it suits them. Not after getting specific info from a superior qaeda source. Which makes them much more difficult to track.

I think they get there basic training (probably) and then go off to do there own thing. Not all mind you, I'm sure some have specific orders.

Do you think he knew that we had intelligence on Khan's every move for the last, what, two years or so?

I think the trail goes back over 20 years when we looked the other way while the Pakistanis were helping in Afghanistan.

There's a reason we forced Khan out of the nuclear lab in Oct 2001.
