MARS CHIPS SEEM TO GO POOF!

Below are before and after micrographs of a patch of martian surface as seen by the rover Opportunity. Notice the effect that an applied pressure had on some of the particles.

Post your comments and theories here.

Algore probably hoed it, planted it, sowed it, watered it, shucked it, then stepped on it.

It appears that in the main the chips don't get pressed into the soil and get buried, rather they simply explode as you can see by the change in surface brightness near the larger dissapearing particles.

Does this imply that there is gas under pressure in these grains that is released when they are disturbed?

Is it possible that they have simply been pushed below the surface by the weight of the rover?

Mars Bars used to do the same thing when in my hand.

Now they call them "Snickers Almond."

Looks like they stuck to the disk that applied the pressure.

They should have smashed the big round one on the top just for the heck of it.

Well, I would have.
