CBS Apologizes for Jackson's Exposure (MTV will not produce another Halftime show)

NEW YORK - CBS apologized for an unexpectedly R-rated end to its Super Bowl halftime show, when singer Justin Timberlake (news) tore off part of Janet Jackson (news)'s top, exposing her breast.

The two singers were performing a flirtatious duet to end the halftime show, and at the song's finish, Timberlake reached across Jackson's leather gladiator outfit and pulled off the covering to her right breast.

The network quickly cut away from the shot, and did not mention the incident on the air.

Timberlake said he did not intend to expose Jackson's breast.

"I am sorry that anyone was offended by the wardrobe malfunction during the halftime performance of the Super Bowl," Timberlake said in a statement. "It was not intentional and is regrettable."

Wade said CBS officials attended rehearsals of the halftime show all week, "and there was no indication any such thing would happen. The moment did not conform to CBS' broadcast standards and we would like to apologize to anyone who was offended."

The Super Bowl halftime show, which also featured P. Diddy, Nelly and Kid Rock, was produced by MTV, CBS' corporate cousin in Viacom.

"We were extremely disappointed by elements of the MTV-produced halftime show," Joe Browne, NFL executive vice president, said. "They were totally inconsistent with assurances our office was given about the content of the show.

"It's unlikely that MTV will produce another Super Bowl halftime."

MTV issued a contrite statement, saying the incident was "unrehearsed, unplanned, completely unintentional."

If I knew the answer I wouldn't have asked. Clearly you don't approve of breasts at all, whether they are portrayed in a religious setting, or in the sports arena.

I was not trying to shock or offend you, but neither do I care whether you are. I initially wanted to know why you thought breasts were okay in God's house but not in Houston, but at this point, I really don't care anymore.

What house of God is it that portrays men ripping off womens blouses to expose their breasts?

Get in bed with dogs and you wake up with fleas. CBS got what it deserved and deviency is further dumbed down.

No, Jim, I think the event was meant to shock. As I said elsewhere, I was at work at the hospital, where virtually every patient or their visitors were watching the superbowl. I think the event was MEANT to offend, because some people clearly think it's hilarious or otherwise has an impact to fart, curse, or behave crudely.

If MTV wanted to show an ordinary breast in a way that wasn't meant to shock and offend, I'm sure they could have found a way.

Body parts are not offensive to me, as you assert--but patients and families were offended by the show. I didn't see it, but they were outraged, and they were angry. MTV can do what it wants and will, clearly. But I think superbowl viewership in the future will suffer for this stupid stunt.

You can't even handle art and you are calling me immature??

This is a painting by Titian. Note the scorned lover who is rescued by the forest imps while here lover escapes by sail??

This is a tamer Titian painting, but most have naked bodies and allude to sex as many artist' do from the Renaissance. Your ilks inability to grasp the fact that art, and that is exactly what the half time performance is; Can you handle a museum??? Is it to funny being around naked statues??

It was a wardrobe malfunction-her whole top was supposed to come off when he tore it-not just the part covering her right fun bag.

"OK, we've all seen breasts before, so seeing this is not what's upsetting me."

My 7-year-old son had not! Thanks MTV, NFL, and CBS.....you were able to pollute my son with your filthy images just when I least expected it, at a time when I thought my son and I were safe to enjoy a simple game of Champions.

What did he expect to reveal?

Her elbow? Her brain? Her IQ - both revealed that by this tasteless stunt.

Its not about the children. Right porterville?

Well we better arrest all the women in Asia and Africa who run around without tops too... oh, horror.... female breast, what will we do??? We must save the children from the breast.... It is for the children... it is always for the children... Reminds me of a Ashcroft moment, when he put a drape over a marble statue.

LOL!

Yeah millions of viewers are wrong on this and all this outrage is misplaced.

But, hey, at least YOU have it right!

know what i'd like to see at halftime? how about pre-taped interviews with some of the players who will be playing in the all-star game?

uh.....ok....i meant pro-bowl game. pro-bowl. sheesh...a blonde moment overtook me there.

on a lighter note...my dad told me this joke today:

what do you call 12 millionaires watching the superbowl?

~the kansas city chiefs :)

aaah...only 7 months till pre-season ;)

Gee, I missed the whole thing! Our super bowl party was with a group of guys who play pick-up basketball together; at half time someone plugged in a video of one of the less impressive games we played. We spent halftime mocking each other's moves.

Didn't miss much, you say?
