Wesley Clark pledged Saturday to "get our balance right" by stemming illegal immigration while allowing immigrants to earn citizenship over time.

Appearing in this military community near the border with Mexico, the retired general said, "We are going to control our borders, going to work with the government of Mexico to stem what's going on down there because we have to."

Of course, it helps to remember that the Dems' favorite way to reduce the crime rate is to decriminalize that which is currently illegal.

If my wife wasn't so averse to cold weather and snow(born in Hawaii), go figure),, I'd think of moving back there myself. I left over 20 years ago.

I'm glad to hear the adults are running the state and not the libs. What's this I hear about CCW gaining ground there?

And some folks here will be fished in. That's even scarier.

Why am I NOT surprised?

Because you are a sensible thinker, and don't allow yourself to be drawn into political rhetoric to become a member of the "political sheep".

The likes of YOU ARE the Dem's worst nightmare!

That is the "main" reason that I like your post's!! : )

My "X" (who spent 15 years there) almost had me convinced to relocate to Hawaii. It IS a wonderful place, and is my favorite for visiting!

My fixation for checking out of state plates however would lead me to frustration if I were to make such a move. (rock fever)

Gaining? Said and done. I assume you know, for I spend (almost) as much time at FR when I have the available time as you do and frankly I have deduced that you have a firm grasp on the political issues referencing CCW here in MN.

The Big Island is pretty good sized. I like the Kona side myself. Have a friend who works at the Keck Observatory. They do have snow in Hawaii, just not on the beaches. :-]

I try to keep up as much as I reasonably can on the goings on in Minnesota. I have a sloughful of family and relatives all over the state.

I hope Dayton gets his arse handed to him on a plate next election. I can't believe there are that many who bought into him. But this is also the state that sent Mondale to the Senate for years too. ;-)

I'm surprised Weasely is trying for this one.

He'd really like to take Oklahoma and at least one other state. He might be trying for Arizona and New Mexico with this ploy.

It's disturbing. I didn't think he was smart enough to take a long shot gamble that could pay off big for him.

He may be more dangerous than we thought.

This requires not only improved border security, enhanced penalties against illicit traffickers, institution of a guest worker program that works, and full enforcement of unfair labor practice laws against employers who exploit undocumented workers, but also cooperation with governments like Mexico.

Now, I'm not in any way suggesting that Clark in any way means what he's saying. I nonetheless think it's highly significant that he's publishing these views (in Spanish as well, no less), for the simple reason that it shows that public opinion is plenty in favor of taking tough measures against illegal immigration. And that puts the lie to all the Bushbots' constant irritable excuse-making about how Bush needs do deal with political "realities" and therefore that's why he's fully allowing and even encouraging illegal immigration.

I didn't say it did. What I am saying is that the things I highlighted in bold have not been done, and Bush so far hasn't shown any particular eagerness to get any of it done.

Thank you! :) Actually, I probably *am* the rats' worst nightmare in that, by all accounts, I *should* be one of them -- female, single, Jewish, educated, city -- but loathe them instead. :)

I like the Kona Coffee more myself!!

Lest we forget "Jesse the Body" however I can claim personal impotence on that election for I was in Hong Kong at the time of his election.

The tide of political change lead me to believe that the GOP will be the force to defeat in '04 in Minnesota.

Been done before...FDR ran on an anti- big government platform in 1932 and won in a landslide. Then he turned left and the rest is history, bad history.

He will simply do away with the very concept of illegal immigration.

by all accounts, I *should* be one of them -- :)

Be still, my political heart....Is it appropriate to love one because of their political and spiritual beliefs alone, without even meeting them??(Gasp, knuckles in mouth)

Don't degrade yourself because of what politics shows what one should be. After all, isn't being one with oneself and promoting that fact a key factor in politics in the USA?

female, single, Jewish, educated, city -- but loathe them instead.

Be careful in what one shows of themselves, it is ALWAYS political fodder to someone!

I really enjoy your posts NYC GOP Chick and look forward to many more.

I am absolutely floored. Now I have another option to vote for besides a write-in for Tancredo. I'll even vote for Clark in the Democratic primary if he keeps this kind of talk up. I'm up to my eyeballs in illegals and anyone that wants to stem the flow has my vote.
