[history]
Joshua Cary wasn't sure what the noise was in his family's basement Thursday afternoon in Sullivan, but he wasn't taking any chances.
The 14-year-old picked up a sword and went to investigate.
"I'm going to give you until the count of three to come out or I'm going to stab you," he yelled, according to his mother, Rebecca Cary.

For all Joshua knew, the threat might produce a stray cat trying to keep warm. Instead, a handcuffed man emerged saying, "I didn't do it."
Joshua took the man upstairs at swordpoint. His mother ran outside where police were searching for a prisoner who had escaped earlier in the day. I, for one, say the man should be given the benefit of the doubt.
There's probably a perfectly reasonable explanation for how he ended up, handcuffed, in someone else's basement.

"He's always been fearless," Cary said of her son. "I hope he grows out of that soon." I hope my own son never grows out of that. He once chased an intruder out of our house, through the cellar, with a kitchen knife. He could have sat shivering in the corner, like a B-movie bimbo waiting to get murdered, but he faced the situation head-on. I worry less about his safety because I know he has the courage it takes to survive.

Lady, this young man is the only one protecting your butt !!! Obviously there is not a father in the house ( not a peep of him being mentioned in the article ). The kid did his duty as a man, protecting his family. Enjoy it for once !!!

Tough sword control laws are the answer so this won't happen again.

"He's always been fearless," Cary said of her son. "I hope he grows out of that soon." Why? To become fearful? He sounds lucky that his mom didn't goon him up on Ritalin when he was 13.

LOL same for me....got fascinated with them from books and video games and so did they hubby...between us we own roughly 30, along with various daggers, an axe, spear, flail, crossbow, and my favorite toy of the lot, an ulak. Anyone who thinks they're breaking in here will be full of more holes going out the door than some of our shotgunner FRiends would be making them.

Yep! And a very good name it is! I wonder if he had any idea how lucky he was to share a name with this man? ;-)
