The following report from MEMRI's Baghdad office is a translation of an article which appeared in the Iraqi daily Al-Mada,(1) which obtained lists of 270 companies, organizations, and individuals awarded allocations (vouchers) of crude oil by Saddam Hussein's regime. The beneficiaries reside in 50 countries: 16 Arab, 17 European, 9 Asian, and the rest from sub-Saharan Africa and Latin America. Only a portion of the 270 recipients are listed and identified.

In another obvious case, Megawati Sukarnoputri, deceased President Sukarno's daughter and present leader of Indonesia, is mentioned twice: As Mekawati, and as "daughter to President Sukarno". Total - 10 million.

"Malaysia:
1-Fayiq Ahmad Sharif/ 12.5 million
2-Betmal Co./ 4 million
3-Tade pepper/ 4 million
4-Mastik/Fayiq Ahmad Sharif/ 57 million
5-Hawala/ 7 million"
A not so obvious one, who is Fayiq Ahmad Sharif? 69.5 million bbl is quite a lot of loot.
Mastik? I can find none in Malaysia, but there is a "MASTIC". MASTIC is the "Malaysian Science and Technology Information Center", a govt. institution.
http://www.mastic.gov.my/static/mastic/index.html Malaysia has been in the news lately as a source of WMD technology...

"How come NBC, CBS, and ABC haven't got ahold of this? HA!"
ABC & MSNBC picked up the story tonight and ABC published the list just as we had it here! We didn't get credit, but we did it nonetheless! Long Live Freep!

thank you for the ping to Father benjamin's part of the story... I've been intrigued by the guy too. Brings back memories from another post...
- "VATICAN ENVOY IN IRAQ DENOUNCES EMBARGO AGAIN," - CWNews.com VATICAN (CWNews.com) -- The Vatican's envoy in Baghdad has once again lashed out against the international embargo on Iraq. In a video message, played at the screening of a new documentary on the effects of that embargo, Archbishop Giuseppe Lazzarotto called upon Christian to show their solidarity with the people of Iraq.
(* My note : Where have we heard of this sort of documentary before? Scott Ritter?)
The documentary film, "Iraq Solidarity Action," was produced by Father Jean-Marie Benjamin, a French-born priest serving the diocese of Rome. It was screened today in the presence of the Iraqi ambassador to the Holy See, Wissam Chawket al-Zahawie.
(* My note: Did this French-born priest get a $400,000 stipend from a friendly Iraqi too?)

Morning bump.

Saddam didn't give some loony Brazilian communist party money for nothing in return...what could they give back, intel? Hmmm... good question. Iraq obtained nuclear material and tech from Brazil once before- the Germans arrested a German who was involved in providing iraq with centrifuge enrichment tech and technicians. Also, ...
Mr. da Silva has said Brazil should have nuclear weapons and move closer to China, which has been actively courting the Brazilian military. China has sold Brazil enriched uranium and has invested in the Brazilian aerospace industry, resulting in a joint imagery/reconnaissance satellite.... Brazil shares common borders with 10 other countries in South America. This would help da Silva to emulate as he has said he would the foreign policy of the pro-Castro and pro-Iraq Chavez regime in Venezuela, which has provided support to the communist narco-terrorist FARC in Colombia as well as other anti-democratic groups in other South American countries. Hugo Chavez worked with Mr. Castro to temporarily destabilize the fragile democracy in Ecuador two years ago. Now both support the radical socialist leader of the cocaine growers, Evo Morales, who hopes to become president of Bolivia this August...
Along with helping the communist guerrillas take power in the embattled democracy in Colombia, a da Silva regime in Brazil would be well situated to aide communists, narco-terrorists and other anti-democratic groups in destabilizing the fragile democracies of Bolivia, Ecuador and Peru, as well as to exploit the deep economic crisis in Argentina and Paraguay.- "Blocking a New Axis of Evil," by Constantine C. Menges, The Washington Times, August 7, 2002
Perhaps instead of directly doing something for Iraq, the loony Marxist group's leadership took the money and used it to pay off, buy votes, or blackmail other people/companies in Brazil who may not be named. Perhaps cincinatus' wife has some insights on this.

This would certainly explain some of the weirdly ambivalent statements on Iraq that came out of the Vatican. For one thing, there are a bunch of these leftover liberation theology types floating around there (many of whom are of French origin or training), so there's probably a lot of misinformation provided to the Pope and others in the first place. And a bit of bribery is surely enough to help this along.

How about easy access into USA.
Could be why the Brazilian government is so hostile to the new security measures re photo and fingerprints of those coming in from Brazil.
And maybe this is just one reason, why it was implemented. No doubt there is a whole lot more that is not being shared. . .
