Tell that to Vermont and Massachusettes.

Guess what. That's the problem of Vermont and Massachusetts. The citizens of those states need to approach their state legislatures and deal with it. As are 37 other state legislatures now discussing how best to pass a law that will not be overturned. Contrary to your apparent wishes by your postings, not everyone looks to Washington to 'fix' every issue.

IF you do more than bitch, color me happily suprised

You can color yourself whatever color you want, frankly I could care less. Just because my beliefs are based in principle over party does not make me 'unappeasable'. However, it does make me a conservative

You mean like these folks?

That's a joke, right? Is there really such a group? With a motto "McGovern '72, Part II" and an attribution to the "Vast Right Wing Conspiracy"?

I thought that was just stuff people did with Photoshop to make the DUers crazy.

Karl Rove is actively trying to find a Republican to run against Tancredo because Tancredo opposes any amnesty or coddling of illgals.

There's your first example.

The number one issue in this election is national security. We are at war with a group of Islamic terrorists who want to destroy this nation and Western Civilization. Not one of the democrats (except possibly Lieberman) would prosecute the war on terror, and Lieberman isn't going to get the nomination.

To elect a democrat means we lose Cheney, Rice, and RUMNSFELD. It means we have the horrible Rat appointees in all cabinet positions, such as a Janet Reno type as Attorney General. It means that we will have a democrat for Secretary of State, and if you don't think Bill Clinton wants that job, I have a bridge in Brooklyn to sell you.

I do not want another Ruth Bader Ginsberg appointed to the Supreme Court. I don't want a Sandy Berger type asNational Security Advisor. I don't want to see taxes raised, the UN kissed up to, and France appeased.

I want the military funded and not turned into a social experiment. I want my grandchildren to be able to worship at their Lutheran church and I don't want my granddaughters wearing burkhas!!

Spending and domestic policy can be reversed by future Coongressional action. Foreign policy and defense actions, on the other hand, are controlled exclusively by the executive branch, and a Rat in charge would risk the safety of this nation.

I support the President, I am proud to, and I think those who are threatening to go third party or stay home are supporting the Rats, willingly or not. It is a foolish and dangerous position.

Just wanted to bump this excellent post. These sentiments come straight from my heart too.

...one of the most trying and difficult times in American history....certainly THE most trying in recent years.

Yes, very much so. In our "me-generation," instant-gratification era, too many have quickly forgotten that 9/11/01 and the anthrax attacks were:

I don't know if the magnitude of what happened that Fall has yet sunk into the minds of many Americans. If we had a president in office who indulged in finger-pointing at the prior administration, or at the other political party, or who didn't act decisively to kick-start the nation's economy, or destroy our enemies, who knows where we'd be today.

There is nothing more truly conservative (and Republican) than actions and behavior of George W. Bush in the aftermath of 9/11/01 and the anthrax attacks. For people who genuinely consider themselves conservatives to fail to reward this President for literally conserving the nation — getting it through those dark days with the least possible long-term damage — would be, frankly, dishonorable.

Sabertooth, as you and I have already discussed, immigration appears to be your key issue. It's not for many other people, though.

You brought up a host of issues, and I didn't feel that the point was well-taken that they are all examples of conservative accomplishments by President Bush, though many certainly are. I mentioned several, Illegal Aliens and enforcement of our immigration laws being one.

While many may not find that to be a pressing issue, many clearly do. That's why the topic is getting so much play, not only on this thread, and in this forum, but on talk radio, in the news, and in the country at large.

As mentioned, the President's immigration proposal is already DOA in the House.

So? Illegal Aliens are now a hot button issue this election, and the President is the one that's made it so, with his highly unpopular Amnesty proposal. That's not going to change between now and November.

But if the Democrats were able to wrest control of either chamber of Congress or the White House, without doubt they would pass a bona fide blanket amnesty so fast it would make our heads spin.

First: no, they wouldn't pass a "blanket Amnesty," no one would, though they'd likely pass a worse Amnesty than President Bush is proposing. The term "Blanket Amnesty" is never anything more than a red herring. It means "Amnesty without restriction," and even the Democrats would have restrictions.

Second: by proposing his own Amnesty and striking a highly divisive chord in the GOP, President Bush has empowered the Democrats. He's the source of the problem, not the people he's angered. America's vociferous and widespread opposition should not have been a surprise, and the semantic contortions the President has engaged to deny his Amnesty is an Amnesty are evidence it wasn't a surprise.

To whatever degree his Amnesty proposal hinders GOP turnout in November, President Bush will be the person most responsible for that.

They would be aided by John McCain, J. D. Hayworth, and several other border state Republicans, which means they would have an excellent change of getting it past both the House and Senate. There is where efforts to kill any form of amnesty should be focused.

Sorry, no deal.

Congress must also be addressed, but Amnesty should be opposed wherever it's advanced, and right now, President Bush is by far the most powerful proponent of Amnesty for Illegal Aliens.

What is it with you and the "staff" bit? Did you buy FreeRepublic from Jim and not tell us about it? You're just a FReeper like the rest of us. Just because you chose to disguise yourself as the POTUS doesn't mean you actually are.

By the way, my dear, some disruptive FReepers have been allowed to remain for YEARS before being given the boot.

Remember when you came on FR -- would you have started flaming immediately or would you have laid back to see the lay of the land?

I take your point. But actually, yes, I did pretty much start flaming away, just like everyone else.

That was six months before the first primary. Buchanan, Keyes, Forbes, Bush, they all had pretty rabid contingents here. Of course, nothing was happening officially so we mostly ate each others alive, I think.

A lot of the bitching going on here doesn't mean as much now as it would in the fall when we actually have to cast a ballot. Some people, like me, live in a state so Red we don't have to worry over the electoral college.

Same method "advocated" by "pure Conservatives", as seen in CA recently.

Let the opposition party win.

Let things get so bad that the citizens will rise up and vote them out.

Think 1930s Germany.

Ross Perotistas and PattyCakers.

Think 1992.

8 years.

Look at the new dem crop.

Worse than Slick!

Note Hillary is getting behind our troops to look more "centrist" now?

NYC voters are again getting anti-Iraq War, even after 911.

70% that died in WTC II on 911 voted Gore/Hillary/OBL in 2000

Brutal but true.

Based on how NYC and NY and NJ vote in Nov 2004 I will decide how I respond when NYC gets hit again.

All they seem to want is more money like a massive personal LOTTO win.

I just don't think we help push Bush to the right by shutting up and coddling his liberal tendencies.

We can't...you're correct there. But staying home this November and/or giving support to the alternatives will not push Bush or America to the right either. Write letters, send emails, vote for and support authentic conservative candidates at the senatorial/congressional/state/local levels. See the bigger picture and the historical picture. Yes, it is true that liberal tendencies have infultrated the Republican party as well; in some ways...we've made that bed and now have to sleep in it; in other ways its completely our fault for voting for RINO's; and in some cases the party simply fields a candidate that is electable instead of principled...or worse, its simply about money and power. Thats reality. The brainwashing, socialistic, dumbing-down, anti-American, NWO, globalist, baby killing, death party ideals of liberalism that has infested todays American culture that last 50? or so years is a reality as well. I'm fed up with it too and would love for it to be different. While it is realistic to hold public officials accountable, it is not realistic to expect a %100 shift to the right after 3 years or 8 years of an administration. This will take time...and it won't be perfect. Politics isn't perfect (except in a communistic state /sarcasm)

I'm not a big fan of the 2 party system either...but right now, its a reality. No viable, conservative, principled, electable, 3rd party with staying power and a support base exists right now. It just don't. We have to go with our best shot, and right now...thats GWB and the Republican party. Given GWB's overall record...you must at least conclude that he is %100 better than Clinton/Gore H.Clinton/Clarke or Dean/Edwards (do you envision the kind of world where Howard Dean has the ability to pull the nuclear trigger?); we're just not going to get soemthing like a Paul/Tancredo ticket right now...but thats not to say that in the future...that won't be possible.
