ARTICLE SNIPPET: "The powder was found in an envelope in Frist's office suite on the fourth floor of the Dirksen building, one of three structures occupied by senators and their staffs, said a congressional source speaking on condition of anonymity.
Ricin is a highly poisonous substance derived from castor beans. Easy to make, it can cause death 36 to 72 hours after ingestion, inhalation or injection.
Police found traces of ricin in a north London apartment last January and arrested seven men of North African origin in connection with the virulent toxin that has been linked to Al Qaeda (search) terrorists and Iraq.
A package containing ricin was also found at a post facility serving Greenville-Spartanburg International Airport in South Carolina in October."

http://www.wtop.com/index.php?sid=166444&nid=25 WTOP (AP): " Investigators Look into Fumes at Treasury Dept. "
Updated: Monday, Feb. 2, 2004 - 5:31 PM
ARTICLE SNIPPET: "WASHINGTON -- Hazmat crews are back at the Treasury Department, searching for the source of petroleum fumes that can be smelled inside the building.
D.C. Fire and EMS says the fumes were reported at about 10 a.m. Tuesday. It's been an ongoing problem for a couple of years in the area of 15th Street and Pennsylvania Avenue, and investigators continue to try and solve the mystery.
Spokesman Alan Etter says it's possible someone is illegally dumping petroleum products into the sewer system, or someone is over-filling a gas powered generator. But the source has still not been pinpointed."
