I don't have a problem with the gun. I have a problem with someone being so irresponsible as to have a weapon like that in that close proximity to a child, when the person has shown by her subsequent actions that she is not in complete possession of her faculties. In other words, anyone who is capable of blowing herself to bits, along with 4 innocents who did not ask to be blown up, is certainly not competent to be handling weapons around children or anyone else for that matter.

Fact of the matter is, there are lots of people too crazy or volatile to have guns around. That doesn't mean the government should outlaw them, if that's what you think I mean. I am opposed to gun control. I am in favor of RESPONSIBLE exercise of personal freedom. (If you can't handle a gun then have the common sense not to bring one in your house.)

I also have a problem with someone holding a hot cup of coffee that close to a child. Odds are the kid is going to jump, and the coffee is going to spill, and the kid is going to get burned. (OK I'm a mom - I worry!) But I don't think the government needs to step in a regulate how hot we can make coffee in our homes.

Responsible, personal exercise of freedom.

Told you I'd offend someone. But I did so nicely I think :)

We have a free-standing (fake logs) earth stove type, that uses propane. It is vented through a chimney (pipe). It is a great source of heat. It heats the whole house (2600 sq. ft, single story, 10 foot ceilings, lots of windows). The only drawback is the fan requires electricity. Without electricity it would still generate heat, just wouldn't circulate as well but still keeps the house quite toasty (we experiemented with the fan off). We have a generator in case electricity goes out which it has a couple of times this winter (downed trees due to storm). The only reason we turned on the generator was the power was off all day and I wanted to use the computer (gee, imagine that!) If you had a wood stove, or pellet stove electricity would not be an issue. We have some neighbors with a pellet stove and they love it. Heats the whole house. We also live in cold/snow country. Snow on the ground 4 months out of the year.

Another advantage of propane (IMO) is other uses. If we are without electricity we still have hot water and the stove/oven still works as they are all propane and electricity is not an issue with the hot water heater or the stove/oven. Hope that helps.

And of course politicians who receive large contributions from donors, either foreign or domestic, would NEVER dream of voting for the platforms those donors represent - would they?/sarcasm

Duh, I didn't answer your question! I've heard that camping type propane stoves are dangerous to use in the house because of the venting issue. I guess I would consider a more permanent type designed for household use.

"I'm hung up about Feb 3/4. Bio/Chem or dirty nuke."

Similar thoughts but Jan.30-Feb 4th and I'm concerned about suitcase nukes and black market larger versions. I see too many dots and shared goals to connect between the jihad and the socialists(including the progressive dem caucus to an extent) who would like to throw us into anarchy in order to grab a big piece of American pie.

The Clintons sold us out and set the stage.

I am posting this because so many here have children(small),
and the possible implications it could have on all our lives. FROM CDC

CDC: Doctors Should Watch for Bird Flu Cases

Tuesday, January 27, 2004

In the first warning to U.S. citizens about bird flu, the government urged doctors Tuesday to ask patients with flu-like symptoms if they have traveled to places in Asia where bird flu (search) has broken out.

The goal is to prevent the possible human spread of the virus, although there have been no documented cases of this occurring during the Asian outbreak.

"We are taking this very seriously right now," said Dr. Julie Gerberding, head of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (search) in Atlanta.

No cases of bird flu in either people or birds have been seen so far in the United States.

Gerberding said if doctors find that patients with flu symptoms have been in Vietnam (search) or other places with bird flu, they should test for the virus. If it turns out they have influenza A, then state and local health departments working with CDC can check further to see if it is the H5N1 bird flu strain.

Gerberding said people who might have the flu should voluntarily tell doctors about their Asian travels if no one asks them about it.

"I want to emphasize that right now it appears to be very unlikely, but we want to be very vigilant and to make sure we are doing everything we can to detect any possible introduction here," Gerberding said.

She urged people who travel to areas with outbreaks to stay away from poultry farms, live animal markets or any surfaces contaminated with bird droppings.

So far, H5N1 bird flu has been found in eight Asian countries, and eight people are known to have died from the infection. While all appear to have caught the virus from chickens, experts suspect the disease can be passed person to person, since that occurred during a similar outbreak in Hong Kong in 1997.

The ultimate fear, though, is that someone will catch the bird flu while already infected with the ordinary human flu virus. The two viruses might swap genes, creating a mutant that could spread easily with disastrous results.

Considering the millions of chickens infected with the virus, spread to humans appears to be rare. Gerberding said there is no indication so far for a travel alert or advisory for Americans going to areas affected by the outbreak.

Last year's SARS outbreak was the last time U.S. doctors were told to be on special alert for the introduction of a contagious respiratory virus from abroad. Typically flu is much more contagious than SARS, so containing a human outbreak might be much more difficult than stopping SARS, which health officials did by isolating infected people.

Gerberding said the CDC is reviewing its infection control guidelines to be used "in the worst case scenario if we should have a patient with this disease and there is any suggestion of person-to-person transmission." She said these would be similar to measures for containing regular flu and SARS.

According to the CDC, outbreaks of H5N1 flu have been reported among poultry in Cambodia, China, Indonesia, Japan, Myanmar, South Korea, Thailand and Vietnam. Another strain of the disease has been seen in wild flocks or poultry in Laos, Pakistan and Taiwan.

Just watched them and it fills me with rage and sadness. How can this brainwashing happen!?! It is sad beyond belief. Maybe it upsets me so much because I was never able to have children (miscarriages, long dreadful story). But, I am now blessed with a grown stepdaughter and two wonderful grandchildren. I just get so upset when people have children and they mistreat them or send them off to be suicide killers. ACK! (Sorry for the rant, I'm glad you posted those clips, they need to be seen).

"FBI Raids Dallas-Area Internet Business as Part of Terrorism Investigation"

By David Koenig Associated Press Writer Published: Sep 6, 2001

ARTICLE SNIPPET: "DALLAS (AP) - Federal agents continued searching the headquarters of an Internet company Thursday as part of an ongoing terrorism investigation, the FBI said. Muslim leaders said authorities acted on scant evidence and anti-Arab stereotypes.

InfoCom Corp., based in suburban Richardson, says it sells computer systems and Internet services to many large Islamic organizations in the United States and businesses in the Middle East.

The FBI said the search, which began Wednesday, was part of a two-year investigation by the North Texas Joint Terrorism Task Force."

I am concerned about having a safe inside heat source, our windchill here brrrrr

JP..check out nitro-pak.com..they have a heat "can" that burns for a small amount of time (6 hrs?) and puts out lots of BTUs. It's about $5 ea. I think it's called Alco-Lite or something like that - and the neat thing is - unlike other heat sources, you can BURN IT INDOORS! I bought a few of these, plus the "stove" to cook on.

JD Remple Dubai Falcon Hospital, P.O. Box 23919 Dubai United Arab Emirates

Falcon Herpesvirus Vaccine

(snip)

Viral shedding is a concern in an immunosuppressed host that is vaccinated with a MLV. All vaccinates that are successfully "infected" (vaccinated) with a MLV vaccine can be made to shed vaccine virus under immunosuppressive conditions. Under normal conditions, vaccinates latently harbor the virus and do not shed. Although shed vaccine virus would pose no threat to other hosts of the same species, no one can be certain that the shed vaccine virus could not be an introduced pathogen for other wildlife species hosts. This is an important concern that has been addressed by several experts including Dr. David Graham and Professor Ian Tizard.

(snip)

So are vaccinated falcons being released? The Herpesvirus Vaccine is not the only bioresearch Dubai Falcon Hospital has been working on. Do some simple searches in google to see more.

This would REALLY be a low cost, low tech way of attacking through 3rd party means. Heck, the falcons can cross the border at Canada and Mexicon on their own.
