Concerns Remain Despite Lowered Threat Level
TODAY

The government lowered the threat level to yellow because there were fewer credible reports of threats, Homeland Security Secretary Tom Ridge says. But that doesn't mean threats have evaporated. Aviation and certain cities remain at risk, Ridge said. Instead of issuing a blanket yellow alert, Ridge sought to be more specific about threats. Just how specific future alerts can be will hinge on the quality of intelligence.

OK..after looking at the nuke TEST photos, I've had a "eureka moment".

IF the terrorists REALLY did this, they would've called every media organization they could think of, saying "go to such and such an island in the Pacific, and see the results of the power sent to us from Allah, blah, blah, blah". Then, they would've written volumes on how they will "strike the infidels with the blessed weapons in the land where they feel safe" over, and over, and over..

The fact that this has not happened convinces me this is simply someone pulling an old photo from US tests in the Pacific (which we all know happened in the 50s and 60s) and writing some bluster around it.

In a way, this makes me feel better about them NOT having nukes. Because, if they did..they would not have gone this angle.

IMHO, all of the talk about nukes is nothing but fear mongering.

I actually feel MUCH better after seeing this recent post/threat. Now I KNOW they don't have the "big toys".

I fear we've all been had by "jihad by the keyboard".

These are not images of an Al Qaeda test. Al Qaeda hasn't tested any nukes. The posting didn't claim they had tested a nuke - it was some guy rambling about how wonderful such an explosion would be against the enemies.

First, if they have a nuke they are't going to waste it in a test in some remote location. They'd test it somewhere where they'd get bang for their buck. These images are on the web and have been there for years.

Secondly the second they detonate a nuke then the US and Israel is going to come down on them with their full wrath. There is no way that we will tolerate Al Qaeda as a confirmed nuclear power. I wouldn't want to be the leader of a nation that tells Bush NO when he asks to come in after Bin Lader if Osama detonates a nuke.

Nope, they haven't tested a nuke. Besides, those images would have been taken from a high flying aircraft. Not likely that Al Qaeda has one of those anyway.

That posting was designed to frighten. They know we monitor their boards.

I heard news when I woke up on MSNBC that threats are picking up again

I was afraid that was going to happen as we got closer to the 1st. Do you think we'll go to orange this weekend?

I agree...but the media did not tell everyone about their secret meeting with Ridge and others (Brokaw, etc). When was the last nuke test that we know of occur?...because these pictures do not look like the film quality of 50's or 60's film...they do seem to look like something current...Is it possible that the picture is not really a nuke but some other large explosion...

Why is this huge? It is a picture of a test on an atoll. It is not a picture of Al Q testing a nuke.

If they really had a nuke, do you think they would go waste it on an island?

Just who and what would we nuke?

Saudia Arabia? Well that would potentially render oil reserves contaminated and unuseable.

Iran? If they have a treaty with Russia that prevents obvious problems.

Iraq? Well our troops would be in harms way.

North Korea? It is understood that they do have a limited ICBM. (Good bye LA)?

Afghanistan? Well we could nuke some mountains on the Border of Pakistan. To what effect, who knows?

Syria? They do have Bio/Chem and will probably launch against Israel if they are threatened with a massive attack. There wouldn't be much warning for israeli citizens to allow them to prepare.

I think any use of WMDs (Nuke or Bio/Chem) against the US mainland presents some very difficult issues with regards to our response. AQ does not have a clear base of operations to attack. I'd guess the logical response would be a conventional repsonse, an even greater callup or Draft of soldiers and invasions of other Middle Eastern nations like Syria and Iran.

I hadn't seen that pic before and was curious if it's a photo shopped image or an actual test. I wonder if it's a pic of a Russian test from the past and if it can be identified?

The tie in to the Russian word Servernaya has piqued my hinky meter. The Russians have nukes. The Russians have in the past, attacked Afghanistan, yet Osama condemns just about every country in his diatribes *except* the Russians.

Needless to say, the Russians are not our friends (IMO).

Those are old test photos from about 40 years ago. Look at the quality of the color of the film. Looks like those old technicolor MGM movies, no?
