"Secondly the second they detonate a nuke then the US and Israel is going to come down on them with their full wrath. There is no way that we will tolerate Al Qaeda as a confirmed nuclear power. I wouldn't want to be the leader of a nation that tells Bush NO when he asks to come in after Bin Lader if Osama detonates a nuke."

Just who and what would we nuke?

Saudia Arabia? Well that would potentially render oil reserves contaminated and unuseable.

Iran? If they have a treaty with Russia that prevents obvious problems.

Iraq? Well our troops would be in harms way.

North Korea? It is understood that they do have a limited ICBM. (Good bye LA)?

Afghanistan? Well we could nuke some mountains on the Border of Pakistan. To what effect, who knows?

Syria? They do have Bio/Chem and will probably launch against Israel if they are threatened with a massive attack. There wouldn't be much warning for israeli citizens to allow them to prepare.

I think any use of WMDs (Nuke or Bio/Chem) against the US mainland presents some very difficult issues with regards to our response. AQ does not have a clear base of operations to attack. I'd guess the logical response would be a conventional repsonse, an even greater callup or Draft of soldiers and invasions of other Middle Eastern nations like Syria and Iran.
