I just got the news that my precious son's (age 4) blood tests are back. He has Alpha 1 and the numbers on his liver enzymes are shooting up again.
His alkalines have almost doubles, as have ALT and AST. In short, it's not real good. Our wonderful doctor wants to check again in 3 months, but thinks we'll be headed back to Vandy for more aggressive treatment.
Please pray for his health & healing if it is God's will. Also, please pray for us as we cope. I will most certainly give God the glory and ya'll my heartfelt thanks.
Alpha-1 Antitrypsin Deficiency (AAT Deficiency or Alpha-1) is one of the most common serious hereditary disorders in the world and can result in life-threatening liver disease in children and adults or in lung disease in adults.
I'm going to have a bit of a cry now. He begged to go to Granny's for a few hours and I just couldn't say no.

OK, for what it's worth, I'll get down on my prayer-bones (knees) and politely ask for help.

I know they're doing research and we will do EVERYTHING possible to save our precious boy. HOWEVER a lot of the technology is coming from stem cell research. Especially what I'm hearing about Gene Replacement Therapy. We are ardently pro-life, and will not use technology that has benefitted from another child's willful murder.Remember that stem cells can be obtained from cord blood after birth. No one is harmed.
I'll keep everyone in my prayers.

Get that chin up, this thing's just begun.
Of course because of your love & devotion for your child, you're naturally inclined to see the whole thing in a "worst case scenario," but know what?
Miracles *need* wcs if they're to be miraculous; &, in your son's case?
A miracle will manifest with anything better than the absolute worst.
Right?
Hang in there & permit Him to be generous.
You've an awful lot of us ringing His doorbell at this very moment asking for His immediate attention.
In the meantime?
...have faith.

I was in the hospital with my son when you originally posted this (

Jacob will be in my prayers.
My son had a liver transplant when he was four months old. He is 4 years old now. If you have any questions at all feel free to ask.

I just found this thread and now Jake will join several other little children in my nightly prayers.
Boston Children's ---- many thoughts of that hospital from when I was a student nurse. A fine place.
Good luck and I hope all our prayers will envelop you and sweet Jake.
