Ah, but you have to admit that the football scene with the watermelon to feed a hungry human infant with Sid doing the moonwalk followed by the last female gooneybird jumping off the cliff to the lament of the male gooneybirds and the snowboard scene with the skis made out of treebark with Sid yelling "slalom baby slolam" and afterwards Sid the Sloth pounding on the bad tiger's butt yelling "survival of the fittest" was good.

Hmmmmm... no. At best they were momentary respit from a bad story. It was really well animated though, I'll give them that.

My kids are a bit younger than eight, but I can't imagine allowing them to watch Dr. Strangelove, Groundhog Day or Beetlejuice anytime soon. Other shows like Iron Giant and Fly Away Home, need a mature enough child to reject the "guns/military/corporations are bad" message.

hey I just noticed Fantasia isn't on this list. My introduction to good animation and classical music. This list gets worse every time I look at it.

You would think "Big" would be a kids movie...but then they've got that scene where Tom Hanks touches the girl's breast...

Yes, this is a strange list for kids' films.

That said, I would add 'Rudy' w/Sean Astin. What a great film, and I don't even care for football. He struggles, he struggles, he struggles some more, and then he triumphs! It is a great American film, a great lesson in trying hard to reach your goals, etc. I think every 8th grader should be shown this film so they can get that victim mindset out of their heads before they go off to high school.

For those who like football, that's another plus to the movie. However, Rudy played at Notre Dame and I'm a Wolverine, so I couldn't get as excited about watching ND as some people might. : )

I didn't really dig Basketball, too much something. But I really like the concept for Dude, it's basically the day after Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure, and joining the heros the day after they did something really interesting but are too stoned to remember and need to piece it all back together again is a very original idea.

Walkabout is a great movie for kids, if you get rid of all of the nudity and the suicide by the Bushman at the end. I always liked Jenny Augutter though.

Strongly recommended for teenagers (watching with parents): Hope and Glory, a wonderful tale of a family during the Blitz.
