A lot of good movies, but some I would say are not children movies.

"Rear Window" but not "Vertigo" or "The Man Who Knew Too Much" (Mark II), "High Noon" but not "Rio Bravo" (Bad River for those who don't know Spanish), "My Fair Lady" but not "The Sound of Music," "Dr Strangelove" but not "The Ipcress File" or "The Manchurian Candidate"?

Lots of choices.

This is one odd list for sure, don't know what criteria they used, but its a pretty odd collection....

Who determines this?

Lilo and Stitch ranks higher than Lion King? And CHICKEN RUN outranks both of them? Someone had some weird arse criteria when putting this list together.....

For ages 8 to 12, some of these newer ones are rated PG-13. Leave it to the Slimes.

I agree. How about Lili an early 50s movie with Leslie Caron and Mel Ferrer? That would be on my list....

How does 'The Princess Bride' end up in the 70s??
It should be a clear #1, no contest.

Rear Window? Dr. Strangelove? The African Queen? Some Like it Hot? How did these end up on a list of movies for 8 year olds???

African Queen
Beetlejuice
Buddy Holly Story
Butch Cassidy and Some Dunce Kid
The Longest Day
North by Northwest
to name a few.
I do not think my children would be interested in these.

"The Karate Kid" is a great kid's movie. It has a good conservative message.

You missed "Ice Age." Even though I liked "Monsters, Inc.", I liked "Ice Age" better. Who could forget Sid the Sloth, lovable, silly nincompoop creature whose fur turns fungus just like his Uncle Fungus, gruff with a larger than life heart Manfred (Manny) the Mammoth, or the bad but good predator Diego the Sabre Tooth Tiger? Can't you have 101 movies for children?

Must be by popularity - I don't see Casablanca as a kids' movie at all - most of it would be over their heads (and thank God for that!) - and, too, not all movies that feature kids are for them. Bride of Chuckie and The Exorcist and Taxi Driver come to mind...

I'm scratching my head over some of these being appropriate or interesting to children (some I don't know well I am not listing but may also be inappropriate):

10. "Beetlejuice" (1988)
18. "Casablanca" (1942)
19. "Cat Ballou" (1965)
20. "Chariots of Fire" (1981)
25. "Dr. Strangelove or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb" (1964)
33. "Gandhi" (1982)
37. "Great Expectations" (1946)
43. "It Happened One Night" (1934)
48. "Lawrence of Arabia" (1962)
74. "Rear Window" (1954)
