President Bush will deliver the annual State of the Union this evening at 9:01pm (Eastern Time). The speech will be webcast live on the White House web site.

The President will discuss the extraordinary challenges our country has faced and the historic achievements we have made. Yet he will also stress that there.s much more for our country to do:

"America this evening is a Nation called to great responsibilities. And we are rising to meet them…"

"We have not come all this way – through tragedy, and trial, and war – only to falter and leave our work unfinished. Americans are rising to the tasks of history, and they expect the same of us."

He will also remind the American people that we are a Nation still at war, and our government is meeting its responsibility to protect the American people:

"Our greatest responsibility is the active defense of the American people. Twenty-eight months have passed since September 11, 2001 – over two years without an attack on American soil – and it is tempting to believe that the danger is behind us. That hope is understandable, comforting – and false."

"...America is on the offensive against the terrorists..."

"As part of the offensive against terror, we are also confronting the regimes that harbor and support terrorists, and could supply them with nuclear, chemical, or biological weapons…"

"...Because of American leadership and resolve, the world is changing for the better…"

He will discuss the progress we’re making in Afghanistan and Iraq, and renew our commitment to ensuring those countries are free and peaceful:

"The men and women of Afghanistan are building a nation that is free, and proud, and fighting terror…"

"The work of building a new Iraq is hard, and it is right. And America has always been willing to do what it takes for what is right."

On priorities here at home, the President will discuss why he’s optimistic about our growing economy, and call on Congress to take action that will help turn our economic recovery into a lasting recovery. He will call on them to help train Americans for the jobs of the 21st Century:

"America’s growing economy is also a changing economy. As technology transforms the way almost every job is done, America becomes more productive, and workers need new skills… We must respond by helping more Americans gain the skills to find good jobs in our new economy."

President Bush will also discuss the importance of health care and the major cause for why Americans lack health insurance: the rising costs of health care.

"On the critical issue of health care, our goal is to ensure that Americans can choose and afford private health care coverage that best fits their individual needs. To make insurance more affordable, Congress must act to address rapidly rising health care costs."

Finally, the President will argue that in a time of great change in our country and world, the things that make our country strong should never change:

"We are living in a time of great change… Yet some things endure – courage and compassion, reverence and integrity, respect for differences of faith and race. The values we try to live by never change. And they are instilled in us by fundamental institutions, such as families, and schools, and religious congregations. These institutions – the unseen pillars of civilization – must remain strong in America…"

"All of us – parents, schools, government – must work together to counter the negative influence of the culture, and to send the right messages to our children."

"The President shall from time to time give to Congress information of the State of the Union and recommend to their Consideration such measures as he shall judge necessary and expedient."

So is it because of that one issue or do you feel that, on balance, GWB has not done a good job?

Is that one issue enough for you to potentially help a Democrat win the White House?

Isn't there a better way for you to get your message across? There has to be.

I hope our prayers and her faith will be heeded.

I also think the plan is somewhat an effect of his (President Bush's) Christianity. He's trying to help people , and find something that works for all. I applaud the effort. I don't know if it will be successful or not.

I think we sometimes forget that President Bush has to be the leader of ALL the people . That's what he's trying to do. I wouldn't even want his job. Can you imagine ALL the people that clamor for his attention , and demand that "this" or "that" be done, or not done, on a daily basis?

Yeeeeeeeee!- I would run screaming from the room, if I had to deal with all of them everyday (especially the 'RATS), so even if you're mad at him, please remember to Pray for him, that the Lord give him strength , patience, and wisdom. He has such a tough job.

Jay Leno had a great take on Dean's rant last night. He showed a clip of the speech with a fake interpreter in one corner, doing sign language. As Dean ranted and raved, the interpreter looked at him in disgust and finally threw up his hands in disgust and walked off. Hilarious!

Some of the followup shows on Fox are excellent. On Hannity and Colmes, Alan tried the "there are no WMD found with Senator Bauye (sp?) from Indiana. Who promptly stuffed Alan and said "we know he had them, Kay determined that he had programs set to likely reconstitute them and it is not over yet.... We may still find them!!!"

I loved that!!!

That's the theory and the law. In the real world it's flouted at every turn and I think you know that.

No I don't know that in fact all of the real evidence says otherwise. What is flouted is the myth about this program. The H1B program is not important enough for a business to endanger itself by breaking federal law over. It goes against all common sense to pay more for one class of worker just to keep a citizen from filling the job. If you think these H1B folks are stupid and don't know what they are entitled to under the law and that they will hesitate to go to the Feds if they feel they are being screwed then you don't know much about them. The is no incentive for companies to hire H1B applicants when the job can be done with either a regular hire citizen or a contractor who is also a citizen unless there is no other way.

I think it's amazing that a Democrat would say that the US under Bush is like a missile. Wouldn't that be a more apt description of what Clinton was? Isn't that all he ever represented to Iraq? Lob a missile from the Med.

In contrast, this President sent our troops to LIBERATE the people of Iraq. To free them from the torture chambers and rape rooms. To give them FREEDOM of speech and a free press. To let them enjoy the fruits of their labor and their economy.

Is that light enough for you BOTOX NANCY?

Thanks for pointing that out, it's basically my point. We are not owners of the country, we just share the dream. We have made our mistakes and we try to learn from them. We're not perfect, we're just the best place to live on the planet and it's not hard for me to understand why people want to come here. But saying we will only hire Americans kinda flies in the face of our motto carved in the base of the Statue of Liberty.

Unions have created this problem and it will take many more years to recover from the days of the General Motors factory employee who spends his day repeating the unskilled task of tightening 4 drive shaft bolts on each passing vehicle on the assembly line at a rate of $35.00 an hour. The fact is, Unions have killed the manufacturing sector in this country with crippling labor rates. I've been a blue collar worker all my life and if I have seen first hand what unions have done to this country, and until we abandon their socialist platform that says to the factory owners, "Why work hard... The pay is the same?" our manufacturing industry will continue to leave this country, it's called Capitalism

Wow, that's a sick "little girl" MM.

Man, that's scary stuff. Opportunistic virus' come out of the blue and they strike hard and to the core of human weakness.

Thank God she's in the Hospital, it's easy to dehydrate perilously on that sickness track. I'm glad her Mom and Dad, her fiancee and other loved ones were there, if she was isolated (like many 24 year olds in the big city are) and didn't have you and your husbands sage outside view and parental authority, that turn of events could have been even more serious beyond what we want to contemplate. Good job MOM! ;^)

Yeah, the ingrates and selfish whiners here are getting beyond the limit of patience with me too. They're trying to destroy a beautiful resource.

You're right. I fully realize they're unable to see GWB as doing anything wrong. And, frankly, they no longer warrant my time.

Peace.
