Even if there is water found, they have still just found a configuration of hydrogen and oxygen.
Finding water is not finding life. (I hope not, I'm going to get a bottle of water here in a moment....if it morphs out of the bottle and takes over my keyboard, I'll let you know...:>)

I think Kubrick took that shot.
"Water on Mars" is going to be like the "Life on Mars" Clinton told Dick Morris about. Anything to impress a woman.
If Bush wants to rally the troops around space exploration, fine. Whatever it takes to beat the dims.
But like Christ Rock says about curing aids, it ain't neeever gonna happen.

How long before the Democratic Candidates blame Mars' lack of water on the Bush Administration?

Cal Thomas on his program on Saturday showed several recent cartoons. One was of a golfer telling his wife that if the government wanted to find water on Mars, they should just send him there with his golf clubs.

Another reason why the US needs to get out of the UN.
Treaty on Principles Governing the Activities of States in the Exploration and Use of Outer Space, Including the Moon and other Celestial Bodies
Article II Outer space, including the moon and other celestial bodies, is not subject to national appropriation by claim of sovereignty, by means of use or occupation, or by any other means.
In other words, the UN Treaty expressly forbids any claim of national appropriation. So, my question is - why can't I appropriate my piece of Mars for myself?

Governments should not claim ownership of Mars - but why not allow a government to grant certain private property rights to those who get their first? Ain 't this a bit of an oxymoron???
How can a 'gummint' grant ANYTHING if it has no ownership?

If MARS was pure GOLD, it would NOT be cost effective to bring any of it back to EARTH!

No proof of water? Then we shouldn't have sent a probe! The U.N. should have had more time to find the water! </sarcasm>

There was an interesting Sci-Fi TV series last year called Firefly that presented the situation that mankind was alone in the universe. It was a courageous premise. The show, while quite good, got cancelled. One often cited reason from disappointed fans was that there were no aliens. They just couldn't even imagine the possiblity. Yet I'm sure they would claim to be the ones with "open minds!" LOL!

"Finding water is not finding life." No, but if you will remember, finding a rock (on earth) laying on the ground, with a microscopic ring-shaped impression that you can declare to be a martian bacterium, seems to be enough for some here.

"If someone wants to take the time to enlarge that image..." It won't help; you can't make pixels that aren't there.

I guess if they find iron on Mars, that'll be proof of a visit by US Steel.
