Congresswoman will not seek the seat held by Bob Graham, GOP leaders say
By John Kennedy | Tallahassee Bureau Posted January 16, 2004
TALLAHASSEE -- Katherine Harris is expected to announce today that she will not run for U.S. Senate, key Republican leaders told the Orlando Sentinel Thursday night.
After weeks of speculation about her political future, Harris apparently has decided to stay out of the crowded GOP primary field, although at least one party source conceded that she could change her mind.
As part of what were described as "delicate" discussions with GOP leaders, Harris will instead seek a second term in the U.S. House and likely will run for the seat now held by Florida Democratic U.S. Sen. Bill Nelson in 2006.
Harris herself was saying little.

I love Harris, but her running for Senate in '04 would have been a full fledged disaster. Better for GW and her that she stay in the house.

I've been saying she should run against Nelson in '06 since forever. That would be great. I'd love to see her in the Senate, just not in '04.

Excellent story that needs to be told. This is what happens when good people work together. Harris obviously knows this, which is great.
BTW, I just thought of something, maybe she shouldn't run for Senate against Bill Nelson, how's about she starts gearing up to be Jeb's successor? Maybe have Jeb run for Senate in '06 and her for Gov.?

BTW, I just thought of something, maybe she shouldn't run for Senate against Bill Nelson, how's about she starts gearing up to be Jeb's successor? CFO Tom Gallagher has that nomination locked up already. He'd beat Harris in a primary.
His site needs a new picture:
That's just terrible . . .

I was sort of hoping she'd run, bc I think she's right, but maybe it's politically better.
The early read of this says to me that Jeb will not run for Senate against Nelson, leaving Katherine for '06.
That leaves Jeb for Pres or VPres in 08. I think VP is a good possibility for Jeb in '08.

Your floral wager must have been with another FReeper (my ironclad rule: Never bet on anything that can talk), but I will contribute to whomever the Republican nominee turns out to be.

You're aren't seriously supporting Klayman, are you, JohnnyZ? I have every confidence that when he is elected, Senator Klayman will sue the WMDs out of every rogue nation on the planet, including France.

No need to get the chad counters in an uproar. LOL! Are you kidding? We will hear about dangling chads constantly during this election! In fact, we have been hearing about them for 3 1/2 years!
Gore's attempted coup was turned around immediately into Bush stole the election. That will be in the history books, not Gore's usurping of the constitution!
I am getting a headache already! :-)

It is possible for her to out-poll (in 2002) Bush (in 2000) without being a stronger candidate and that is because they faced different opponents. If her opponent was weak relative to Bush's she would get a proportional boost.
To: JohnnyZ
I seriously doubt Harris is beatable in ANY primary. Why do you think this guy would beat her?
To: JohnnyZ
I agree he looks like a washed up ex-soap star from the early 70's
