Wasn't John F'n Kerry supposed to get some big endorsement today. I had assumed that it would be Harkin.

Harkin was such a Krinton butt-boy during the impeachment trial, one wonders why he didn't endorse the schlick-meister's hand-picked dupe, General Strangelove. Hmmmm.

The majority of Dems are behind angry Dean. Pragmatists Demoncrats know that he has no snow ball chance in hell. That is the biggest confusion for the poor bastards.

Iowa Sen. Tom Harkin to Endorse Dean

Associated Press

Iowa Sen. Tom Harkin will endorse Howard Dean for the Democratic presidential nomination, party sources said Friday, giving a key boost to an embattled front-runner 10 days before the state's kick-off caucuses.

These sources, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said an afternoon announcement was expected.

Harkin's support would give Dean the backing of the state's most durable Democratic politician, and a man whose organization can prove a vital asset on caucus night Jan 19.

Dean and his rivals for the nomination had all appealed to Harkin for backing, and the senator had said publicly in recent days he was weighing whether to choose sides, or perhaps remain neutral.

Harkin offered his support on a day Dean struggled to prevent lasting damage from the impact of remarks he made four years ago to the effect that the caucus system was dominated by extremist interests.

"Four years ago, I didn't really understand the Iowa caucuses," Dean said during the day.

Dean, a former Vermont governor, leads in the polls in Iowa. But caucuses demand a sophisticated organizational structure, and he has been counting on an army of young volunteers to help deliver him victory on caucus night.

AP Political Writer Ron Fournier in Washington, D.C., contributed to this report.

It is good news, and curious to boot. The Clintons are losing their grip and it appears that many Rats see Dean as inevitable and want to be in on the skinny with the new powers at the DNC. Sure is fun to watch...

This is HUGH! Looks like Dean wins Iowa! Maybe all the anti-Dean stuff that came out the last two days struck Harkin as unfair.

Wasn't John F'n Kerry supposed to get some big endorsement today.

Kerry's getting US Rep. Boswell.

I know Clark seems to be picking up some momentum, but if Dean wins Iowa and New Hampshire, I just can't see anyone beating him for the nomination. It will mean even more name recognition, obvious frontrunner status, and a large fundraising boost. Dean already has the best ground game with the most volunteers and a large lead in money.

It would take a serious momentum shift along with several Clark victories on Super Tuesday to have any hope of stopping Dean.

My point remains. Why would Harkin feel obliged to back Dean simply because he's running in Iowa and Clark is not? Maybe Tom will back someone else in New Hampshire and South Carolina.
