Hope Lange, Film Star Who Earned Oscar Nomination for 'Peyton Place' in 1957, Dies at 70
SANTA MONICA, Calif. Dec. 21 Hope Lange, who starred opposite Hollywood's top actors over a decades-long career and earned an Oscar nomination for her supporting role in the 1957 film "Peyton Place," has died, her husband said Sunday. She was 70.
Lange died Friday at Saint John's Health Center in Santa Monica after suffering an infection caused by an intestinal inflammation known as ischemic colitis, said her husband, Charles Hollerith.
Lange split her time between homes in Los Angeles' Westwood section and New York City, said Hollerith, a former theatrical producer and vice president of the Actors' Fund of America.
Lange starred in dozens of films and television shows and captured two Emmy awards for her role in the series "The Ghost and Mrs. Muir" in the late 1960s, her husband said.
Her big-screen credits included "The Best of Everything" in 1959 with Joan Crawford, "The Young Lions" in 1958 with Marlon Brando and "Peyton Place" with Lana Turner. More recently, she was in 1986's "Blue Velvet" and 1994's "Clear and Present Danger."
Actor Don Murray, who was married to Lange for several years in the 1950s, said Lange combined good looks and acting prowess.
"She was considered a great beauty who was also a serious and dedicated actor who didn't pay attention to being glamorous," Murray said.
Murray said her looks even intimidated Marilyn Monroe, who wanted Lange's naturally blonde hair dyed light brown in their 1956 film "Bus Stop."
"Marilyn complained about sharing the screen with another blonde," said Murray, who also starred in the movie. "I guess she felt competition because Hope was a young beauty."
Lange is survived by her husband, a son, actor Christopher Murray, a daughter, Patricia Murray, and two grandchildren.

The night before David Brinkley was announced dead, I'm up late on the internet doing google searches on him due to a strange urge to dig up all I could find on Mr. Brinkley. No rhyme or reason. The urge just struck me.
Last night, I asked my wife if Hope Lange was the mother in the TV version of Please Don't Eat the Daisies. After our conversation, I'm up late doing google and IMDB searches on Hope Lange. Same urge to dig up everything I can find on Hope Lange.
What's the correct spelling for Osama?

Also look for Christopher Guest ("This Is Spinal Tap") later on in the film, towards the end, as a rookie cop.

Me too! I thought it would be great to have a ghost like Edward Mulhare around. In a silly, romantic kinda way.I caught it on reruns in the late 70's-early 80's.

I've had that experience to but not in this case. It is a very strange feeling, sort of like you picked of on a radio single no one else can knows exists. You should call George Noory or Art Bell. They eat up this kind of stuff. Maybe if you're really lucky George Noory will say "Now that's weird"!!! in that strange way he has that tells you you are into serious weirdness. I laugh when I hear that because I think if he said that to me I would KNOW what I just said was too strange to ever repeat in normal life.

Should he be ashamed of it?

Jeff Goldblum was one of the young "tuffs" that killed Lange's character in the movie.

Jeff Goldblum killed Hope Lange and is walking free and starring in movies? Well, I guess fame as its perks!!!
Where do you think we would be today if one of us "common people" killed Hope Lange?

I remember her cast opposite Dick Van Dyke in his short-lived sitcom that came soon after the Dick Van Dyke Show.

I've had that experience to but not in this case. It is a very strange feeling, sort of like you picked of on a radio single no one else can knows exists. It happens to me in the strangest ways and times. I do credit it with keeping me out of some heavy duty situations a couple of times. But those are other stories.
You should call George Noory or Art Bell.
Now that would be a poor use of intuition! ;-) But I did experience what Art Bell calls Shadow People when I was a kid. That used to freak me out when I was really very young. And it would freak out my parents when I talked about the other people in the room.
Who knows what spirit vibes are out there for us to experience. I don't think too ahrd about them. But every once in a while some thing happens that makes me go, "HUH?!?!
