More than a year after the U.S. Supreme Court restricted damages for illegal immigrants who are mistreated at work, a San Francisco federal jury has reminded employers that abuse can still be expensive even if the victim is undocumented.

The jury awarded $200,000 this week to an illegal immigrant from India, who said his uncle employed him in East Bay gas stations for nearly three years, 12 hours a day, seven days a week without pay, and then fired him when he asked for money. A few hours after agreeing to settle his nephew's wage claim, the uncle reported him to immigration authorities.

bttt Great news...We need MORE of these cases! If illegals can sue for benefits and perceived wrongs then employers will think twice about hiring them instead of Americans. That takes care of the Republican big business profit motive...The Dems are after the illegal votes. That one is tougher in states like Kalifornia where you don't have to show any kind of ID to vote.

Singh filed a wage claim with the state, won $70,000, and agreed with his uncle on a $40,000 settlement in May 2001... Singh, who also collected his $40,000 wage settlement while in jail, said through a Punjabi interpreter Friday that he hopes to use the money to pay medical bills and "try to make my life a little easier now.''

When he's done with the IRS...

Deport the uncle, and hand his assets over to the nephew. That would be a satisfying end to this case.

Deport them all and hand the assets over to the U.S. Taxpayers.

Now, "that would be a satisfying end to this case."

(12 x 365) x 3 = 13,140 hours

$200,000 / 13,140 = $15.22/hour

It is my understanding that if you do something illegal you cannot collect for it -- you have to have "clean hands." This case should never have gone to court.

Thank god for unlimited immigration, where we can now "progress" to Indian cultural standards of nepotism and corruption.

Your understanding is correct for Americans. However, illegals are "Special".
