It is my understanding that if you do something illegal you cannot collect for it--you have to have "clean hands." This case should never have gone to court.Your understanding is correct for Americans. However, illegals are "Special".

I guess so. They also qualify for exceptions from out of state fees in some states not available for legal immigrants or for citizens.
