Albert A. Gore III, the son of former Vice President Al Gore, was arrested last night in Bethesda, Md. for possession of marijuana.
According to Montgomery County police, Gore was driving a dark-colored Cadillac through downtown Bethesda around 11:30 p.m. with the car's headlights off.
Police officers who were conducting a campaign against impaired driving during the holiday season stopped the car and noticed that despite the freezing temperature, all the car's windows were open as well as the sunroof.
When the officer spoke with the driver, Mr. Gore, he smelled the odor of marijuana coming from inside the car.
When officers searched the car, they found what appeared to be a partial marijuana cigarette near the center console area. They also found a baggie of suspected marijuana inside a cigartette box and a crushed soda can with an odor of marijuana coming from the interior of the can.
Gore and the two passengers in the car were charged with one count of possession of marijuana, a misdemeanor. All three were released pending trial.

Jenna Bush might have some pointers about dealing with the media.....but somehow I'll bet this one doesn't get that kind of play.

So the "fight for our nation's soul" will be partially won or lost upon how much mud can be flung upon a foolish son of a politican? Tell me, what's the color of the sky in your world? For those of us wound just a wee bit less tight, this story is in the Michael Jackson/ Kobe Bryant zone. Good night.

You know, you are right.
But the odd thing is that this is not the first time Al Gore III has been in trouble. I really don't know about the Bush girls. Are they multiple offenders as well?
To: kristinn
Whatevah! I for one don't think this will affect Al Gore's chances to be elected POTUS one bit!

He was just taking it home to share with Dad. Nothing like a father and son spending quality time together. Yeah ... after all, his dad gets royalties for inventing it!

The kid obviously was trying to prevent further light pollution in Bethesda: maybe he can share a cell with Tommy Chong. BTW: thanks to The Supremes' recent ruling, all three can be charged with possession, even if only one person actually knew it was present.

Well i guess he takes after his ole man as in a real dunce.

Right this minute, I'd like to thank God for His infinite mercy in giving me the dad He did instead of making me Al Gore III. I don't condone using hard drugs, but I think if I were Al III, I'd probably be pestering Nicole Richie to share her stash.

I remember how horrible is was for Gov. Jeb and Mrs. Bush. She went through a very public court ordeal and was confined to a drug rehab. The liberal press were cruel and heartless to the Bushes and their daughter. I believe she has been released. I wouldn't wish this on my worst enemy...drug or alcohol addiction...and though Gore is just plain sorry, I hope he will have the tough love and courage to see that his son faces reality.

A little less adept than the old man in avoiding "the fuzz". In Bob Zelnick's book on Gore, he wrote about Gore fleeing from police on a motor cycle. Gore didn't give up marijuana until the day he decided to run for Congress.

I haven't read the entire thread, but has anyone noted the incident in 2000, when Al's son was caught driving 100 mph trying to catch a flight?
