Bill O'Reilly: Did He Really Have To Take A Shot At Dead Strom Thurmond??
O'Reilly Factor ^
Posted on 12/19/2003 5:59:03 PM PST by Recovering_Democrat
For God's sakes. O'Reilly apparently got Strom's grandson on--a black American who is Strom's grandchild through Essie Mae Washington-Williams. The man had nothing bad to say about Strom...he said it was kept quiet because there was no reason to say anything, and that the family viewed Strom in a favorable light.
He even said he was a Republican who supported the President and will vote for him again.
Bill's response? I'll paraphrase:
"I'm glad all this is coming out. It shows your grandfather to be a massive hypocrite. Don't wanna hurt your feelings, but your grandad was a hypocrite."
The guy (sorry I didn't catch his name) didn't seem angry or anything, he just smiled at Bill.
Now I generally think O'Reilly is okay...but taking a shot at the recently deceased is, um, well, a bit in bad taste, isn't it? Especially since even the "victim" isn't mad...and in fact looked up to old Strom.
Just my opinion.

It's kinda funny how Bill has started giving away books, to viewers whose comment he thinks is good enough......just like Rush has done with his newsletter.

Strom Thurman was no more a hypocrite for embracing white segregationWas he a "white" segregationist, or just a segregationist? Some black folk LIKE the separation and have started their own schools to be "separate." I'm not talking about Muslim schools either.

I thought the interview was really special. The news has to come out. I was impressed with the grandson. Why does anyone have a problem with this?

O'Reilly is rather self-absorbed and likes to fancy himself as an intellectual.
But instead he often comes off as an arrogant "know-it-all" jerk more often than not. I think he's trying really hard to become "controversial". Kind of like Madonna, except I don't really think he's gonna get to much of a chance to slip Brittany Spears the old tongue.

Frankly, the best shows representing conservative views (IMO) on cable news channels are Joe Scarborough on MSNBC and Kudlow & Cramer on CNBC. Both have a balance of reasonable views presented and tend to be more informative than confrontational.

"O'Reilly looked like a low-class loudmouth tonight, grandstanding for the liberals and insulting a guy who obviously honored the memory of his grandfather."
O'Reilly was rude to the good Doctor, who showed class and dignity under the pressure of Bill's chastisement of his Grandfather.
It's all about honoring the family. It's called respect, which is more than Bill showed his guest this evening.

People don't have a problem with the news or interview on this matter. It's in the way Bill O'Reilly trashed Strom Thurmond to his grandson who wanted no part in the mudslinging. The grandson showed what a first-class citizen he is.

Ok, well that's not my quote in your post to me ...however... I can't speak to what most "white folk" or "black folk" prefer.
I can only state my own opinion.

Which begs an interesting point. Since Mr. Oreily went to radio, what would Rush's ratings be on a head to head tv show? We know he is capapble of doing TV quite well.
