Bill O'Reilly: Did He Really Have To Take A Shot At Dead Strom Thurmond??
O'Reilly Factor ^
Posted on 12/19/2003 5:59:03 PM PST by Recovering_Democrat
For God's sakes. O'Reilly apparently got Strom's grandson on--a black American who is Strom's grandchild through Essie Mae Washington-Williams. The man had nothing bad to say about Strom...he said it was kept quiet because there was no reason to say anything, and that the family viewed Strom in a favorable light.
He even said he was a Republican who supported the President and will vote for him again.
Bill's response? I'll paraphrase:
"I'm glad all this is coming out. It shows your grandfather to be a massive hypocrite. Don't wanna hurt your feelings, but your grandad was a hypocrite."
The guy (sorry I didn't catch his name) didn't seem angry or anything, he just smiled at Bill.
Now I generally think O'Reilly is okay...but taking a shot at the recently deceased is, um, well, a bit in bad taste, isn't it? Especially since even the "victim" isn't mad...and in fact looked up to old Strom.
Just my opinion.

You beat me by a second, except you were kinder about O'Reilly who I thought was a snake.

In recent months, the LESS I listen to O'reilly, the LESS I like him or his program or his commentaries.
The only thing bigger than O'reilly's mouth is his ego.
[I tend to turn his program off more frequently than I watch it.]

Did the mouthy one bother to explain why he thought Strom was a hypocrite, and during what period of time he thought he was a hypocrite? I wish I had been the grandson on the show. I hope and trust I could have caused The Mouth to explode.

I find myself only taking Mr. O'Reilly in small doses. If I watch to much of him I get bent out of shape by the way he talks to people. I even find myself bothered when He talks bad to people I don't like!
He's kind of childish sometimes.

I stopped listening to Mr O a while back.that said why in the world did mr.O deem it necessary to be snide to Mr.Thrumond's grandson?
the family hasnt had a problem with any of this,so why the slam on them? it's stupid and beneath Mr.O.

I don't even watch his show anymore. He's not the same as he was a few years ago. It's all about his opinion. He might as well talk with his hands over his ears.

From what I have heard, Strom made sure that the daughter didn't starve.
Bill O'Reilly can't let a week go by, without trotting someone/something out, about which to get his drawers in a wad. Lately, it seems that his target is conservatives.

O'Reilly is a schmuck. He never takes a position that hasn't been populist tested and he's split so many babies in half, he's run out of babies.

Last night O'Reilly was calling Matt Drudge a "threat to democracy." The man is an idiot, with delusions of demagogery.

Bill is a first class jerk.

O'Reilly was no doubt expecting someone with a grudge. Instead, the guy was quite pleasant, talked about being a doctor, and after O'Reilly got his dig in, said that he was a Republican and will be supporting the President. It was kind of funny, since O'Reilly's most favorite politician is Robert F. Kennedy. HA!
To: Paul Atreides
I've noticed the same trend. I think he's going for a certain amount of middle-of-the-roadness. Trying really hard not to get "labeled".
Perhaps it's about book sales??

Beware the one-liners!

That's another thing: he crows about being an Everyman almost as much as John F'n Kerry crows about Vietnam.

I think the entire Thurmond family (including the daughter and grandson) have handled this thing with dignity. Too bad O'Reilly couldn't follow suit.
