Actor John Cleese might follow in the footsteps of Ronald Reagan, Clint Eastwood, Arnold Schwarzenegger and Gary Coleman by making a run for California public office, reports the New York Post.

Cleese's Monty Python co-star Michael Palin told London's Daily Telegraph that Cleese is "very involved with his local community" in Santa Barbara, Calif., and is thinking of running for mayor.

That version doesn't include the ABUSE clinic next door, which I remember from the show.
This page does.

I heard that according to Cleese, his family name was really Cheese, and it was changed to Cleese for some reason.

So, he moved to Monterey, California, so he could be . . .

Are you ready for this?

LOL! You are right, that is some of the best abuse ever. I don't know why they cut it out of the other page. Thanks for putting up the link!

I don't know, if he tells the city council "the killer joke", he may be quite successful.

I've followed Cleese a long time and he has some very good qualities. He's got my vote. But hey we both belong to the Village Idiots Union.......

If he doesn't want to do comedy anymore, why on earth would he go into politics?

Oh well. It will be fun to watch!

If he IS elected mayor, the citizens of Santa Barbara should pay their taxes in Lupins.

All kidding aside, it would be impossible to put all kidding aside. If elected, I predict that he will find his past a hindrance, because no one will be able to resist references to Python skits.

There's just so much ammo with this, why bother. Could we expect a number of provocative campaign video shorts from Terry.

More power to him.

Actually, Cleese is his stage name. His original name was John Cheese. No joke, you could look it up.

Cleese at the mayoral debate:

"Sorry, I'm not allowed to argue unless you've paid."

(Actually, before MPFC, Cleese was trained as a lawyer.)
