John Cleese may run for mayor of Santa Barbara ("And now for something completely different...")

Actor John Cleese might follow in the footsteps of Ronald Reagan, Clint Eastwood, Arnold Schwarzenegger and Gary Coleman by making a run for California public office, reports the New York Post.

Cleese's Monty Python co-star Michael Palin told London's Daily Telegraph that Cleese is "very involved with his local community" in Santa Barbara, Calif., and is thinking of running for mayor.

Anybody know under what party affiliation he'd run? If he's a democrat I'll have to reassess my impression of the man's intelligence, but I'd be very hard pressed to stop liking him.

Not completely. It was strongly suggested in a message thread on a television message board where I first ran across this earlier today.

I'm hoping that he'd be more sensible than to run as a Dim...
