Actor John Cleese might follow in the footsteps of Ronald Reagan, Clint Eastwood, Arnold Schwarzenegger and Gary Coleman by making a run for California public office, reports the New York Post.

Cleese's Monty Python co-star Michael Palin told London's Daily Telegraph that Cleese is "very involved with his local community" in Santa Barbara, Calif., and is thinking of running for mayor.

Anybody know under what party affiliation he'd run?

I believe he's claimed membership in the Mouse Party and is a confirmed Cheddar addict.

The Lumberjack Song

Monty Python

Oh... I'm a lumberjack and I'm okay; I sleeps at night and I works all day.

I cut down trees I eat my lunch I go to the la-va-tree On Wednesdays I go shopping, and have buttered scones for tea.

I cut down trees I skip and jump I like to press wild flowers I put on women's clothing and hang around bars

I cut down trees I wear high heels suspenders and a bra I wish I'd been a girlie Just like my dear pa-pa!

Guess it's a fitting place according to this song!

For whatever it is worth, John Cleese is, like Cynthia McKinney, a visiting professor at Cornell (though under a different program).

One of comedy's great bits is the opening scene of "Life of Brian" where Cleese is in charge of administering the stoning to death of a sinner who uttered the word (dare I say it? Dare ! Dare !) "Jehovah." It's a classic along with so many more of the Python group - - - and Mel Brooks.

Well, he's had political experience, and is thus highly qualified--you know, having held the office of Minister of Silly Walks and all.

"This isn't an argument. It's simply meaningless contradiction!"

"No it isn't."

I'm sorry, is this a five minute argument, or the full half-hour?
