SADDAM HUSSEIN CAPTURED

Former Iraqi President Saddam Hussein has been captured in his home town of Tikrit, according to reports.

There has been no independent verification of the news but Sky New's Foreign Editor Tim Marshall says the source of the news is usually reliable.

The US Defence Department says it has had no confirmation of the claims, which come from Iraqi Kurd leader Jalal Talabani, says the Iran news agency IRNA.

Hundreds of exultant people have taken to the streets of Kirkuk, firing weapons into the air in celebration.

A press conference has been announced for 12pm GMT.

In Baghdad, a spokeswoman for the US-led operation notified reporters that a "very important" announcement will be made at the press conference.

POTUS is a true Southern gentleman and Blair stood with us and POTUS steadfastly.

Well, can't argue with that. However, the fact that it's past noon in England, and half the U.S. isn't awake yet had more to do with it.

Are all giving today's news a big "so what?".

They make me sick.

Even in the face of fantastic news, they still can't bring themselves to admit that this is a good thing.

Germany's Schroeder congratulates Bush after capture of Saddam

BERLIN (AFP) - German Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder, whose country vehemently opposed the war in Iraq, congratulated US President George W. Bush on the capture of toppled president Saddam Hussein, a statement said.

"It is with great joy that I learned of the capture of Saddam Hussein, I congratulate you on this successful action," Schroeder wrote in a telegramme, the government press office statement said.

James Woolsey was just on ABC talking about that Mohammed Atta story. It's gonna get buried by the Saddam news, but Dubya & Co. will figure out some way to get it back on page one where it should be.

Woooo Hoooo! What next? Can UBL be far behind?!

Even in the face of fantastic news, they still can't bring themselves to admit that this is a good thing.

No, it's a good thing for us, and since it is, it's a bad thing for them. They don't want us to succeed.

ABC's Terry Moron Moran reporting that GWB was told yesterday afternoon of the capture.

Congress should immediately investigate this Whitehouse coverup. It's criminal the way the President hid this news from the American people for 12 hours. The release was politically timed etc...(sarcasm off)

Now, I'm wide awake and feel like going outside to scream --- my neighbors are still sleeping. It's still dark outside! LOL!
