The money "restrictions" have already been circumvented -- e.g. Soros.
What remains to be seen is how the "60 day ban on free speech" works and if IT can be circumvented. If this restricts political ads as its supporters stated, this is a gigantic blow to free speech.
I've been a George Bush fan on many issues, but he was a fool to sign this bill. He let us down big time. Our "Republican" Congress was also stupid to do this. And the Supreme "Court" -- they're insane or evil, I haven't decided which. (Can I still say these things?)

"President Bush had an obligation to the Constitution to veto this bill."
I agree.
IMHO................
His signing the bill proves one thing..........
He is a politician, period. Nothing more, nothing less.
Forget all the hype about bush the man, deal with bush the politician and act accordingly.
This applies to the rest of the elected as well.
Before you put your "faith" in anyone who wants your money and your vote, consider what's in it for them...........
because that's what they are doing.

You would have thought the GOP, or the President at the very least, should have been aware that the Supreme Court no longer considers the Constitution in its rulings. It seemed obvious to me. At the time I stated that SCOTUS taking the correct action was a 50-50 proposition at best. But the "GOP can do no wrong" crowd here called me an idiot, fool, liberal, etc.
To: hellinahandcart
I'm with you on that one. The way things are going, I am seriously considering sitting out the next election.

'The National Rifleman' is one of the oldest magazines in the country. I don't see how they can be considered not legitimate media and newbies like Time and Newsweek are legit.
But then I don't understand how the Supremes could rule as they did.

The 60-day restrictions are limited to groups, not individuals. One man can run an attack ad against a candidate. But what does a man require to effectively run such an ad against a candidate? George Soros knows, has plenty of it--and will use it. Barbra Sreisand knows, has plenty of it--and will use it. The NYT knows, has plenty of it--and will use it.
Before this debacle, I had sufficient of it to join with like-minded individuals to run such an ad on the same level as George, Barbra, and the NYT. Now, I still have sufficient of it to accomplish in this cooperative manner, but government has told me I may not join with like-minded individuals to run such an ad.
Of course, you know what "it" is, don't you?
I have been effectively hushed, but George Soros and the NYT have not been.

If all of us engage in massive civil disobedience, it may be enough to get Congress to stop trampling on our rights. We have to have the courage to say, "NO!"

What a wonderful avenue this is for the Bush haters here. Why was I excluded from post #441? (;-(
I feel so left out...
To: NYC Republican; concerned about politics
I understand to outrage about the free speach issue. No problem there. It sucks, and I feel it's certainly an attack of free speach! But this does help our side a lot as far as political money. All donations have to be from individuals. That means anyone. A CEO can hand out donation checks to employees, really. No. That's illegal.

Me too.

Bush gambled, and lost.He gambled with my money. He played Russian Roulette with my rights.
He didn't lose my vote, he had to earn it and he never did.

Nittany...I don't think it was unreasonable for many of us to believe that the SC would strike down some or all of this hideous CFR...afterall, they did the RIGHT thing in stopping the democrats from attempting to steal an election in Florida.

Yep. You are not part of the media and have been royally screwed.

LOL!!!! Some people cannot read and comprehend it seems!
Why do they think that the NRA cannot run an ad for a specific candidate but the anti-NRA can run an ad for a specific candidate?
What am I missing here?
People need to chill out OR is this a good time to attack President Bush like some of these people love to do over and over again?

And what, precisely, is your "solution?" If it fails to comply with the "supreme law of the land," then it is part of the problem, NOT a "solution"...

And if individuals are exempt, why would Soros donate $10 million to a group he doesn't control rather than produce and pay for his own ads?
Don't recall the time limit dates specifically but we aren't within those yet so come that time he may well spend his own money as an individual to run ads if they are legal.... until then why not use organizations?

One of the most baffling aspects of this President is his aversion to the veto. I suppose he is trying to show "compassion" for his enemies... :-/

>>You criticize a politician two months before an election and you go to jail. Which means practically anytime in the next year. This decision is the same league as Dred Scott, Roe V Wade And Lawrence V Texas. Another unconstitutional atrocity birthed by the SCOTUS Supremes.
This decision puts CFR in the same league as the Sedition Act which made it a crime of treason to criticize the government in the press.
To: onyx
What a wonderful avenue this is for the Bush haters here. I noticed that.
The left will be just as silenced as we are. People are forgetting that. And WE own the political cash machine.
I don't agree with this bill, but I'm an optimist. It's unfairly supportive to our side, I think.
