...and like I pointed out to river rat, it beats going to the big house with the father rapers and mother stabbers for 10-20 (time off for good behavior).
Thats the usual for mistreatment and psyco. abuse of prisoners.
I'll bet money that we'll be seeing more of LTC(ret.)West when he gets done with his pennance. I hope it's as a 'Pubbie... Damned waste if he goes 'crat.

Okay, I'll admit you make more sense than my rant...
I'm just convinced our "white hat" attitude is being taken advantage of by cockroaches that have NO honor and NO sense of compassion for the innocent or their enemy...
Where in hell is the "international community", dealing with the crimes against humanity that the Jihadists conduct every day?
Where is the outrage over attacking from behind a white flag.
Where is the outrage over men approaching checkpoints, seeking medical assistance - and then attacking the "good Samaritan"
Who is going to round up those assholes, and put them on trial or before a firing squad?
You don't have to tell me what can happen, when an "eye for an eye" is practiced in the field.... ..no regrets.
End of rant......

Maybe "sealed" is what I'm remembering. Been a long time.
We need more good men like LTC West. I hate to see people like him retire.
I'll try to get in touch with a JAG buddy. (A good one if you can believe it.. :o) But expunged is still rattling around in my head. Don't know why. Maybe just because I'm tired.
Anyway.. glad it is a good outcome. Which I feel it is.

If I had some moola, I'd take out a full page in the Slimes to expose this crap for what it is. How much would it cost, do you think? Save your money, lads. We have a better prospect in the future, and you won't be preaching to the heathens.

They won't take his pay away. Not for a first offense and a letter of reprimand.

Is it really a massive as you see on the TV shows??
Looks like you could get lost for weeks in there.

Well what the hell. This ain't such a bad deal then.

October 4, West was relieved of his command. On October 18th, two weeks to the day before he would become vested in his army retirement program, West was told he either had to resign or face court martial.

This sounds like its true. I'm waiting for confirmation from the LTC in Iraq. It's what he expected and was looking for. He was getting out anyway.
He is precisely the type of officer I would want my boys serving under.

I visited but never had to work there.
LTCs are a dime a dozen and do the work of PFCs.

(btw, where is the 11th District?? Like to know where I'm moving to...;^) ) Me too. I'm an old Cleburne critter. But hold onto your horses, and lets get some more details and official confirmation first.
The Texas 11th District is the area of Ft Hood/, Where LTC West and his wife and daughters make their home.

They're supposedly moving to Florida as soon as he gets back.
His wife has gotten a promotion in her company and they are relocating them there.
I didn't know you hailed from Cleburne. I was raised in the country up north and west of Denton. In Idaho now, but visit folks, brothers, relatives, and friends as often as possible.
To: Mike Darancette
I would think if he were a dem, he would've tried to find out the root cause of the terrorist's anger, perhaps using hugs.

Anything can happen. He'll presumably return to Ft Hood, which is the 11th Texas House District, and which has a vulnerable Democratic incumbant not facing any particularly overqualified Republican challengers. Of course, LTC West may choose to follow the Democratic Party's path; and if so, then I'd say that was a step in the right direction for the Dems.
If he chooses to relocate to Florida, swell; I've al;so identified an interesting race there in which the Col. could be a serious primary contender if he so chooses. Or other directions and venues are possible. Personally, if he tells me he wants to be the first astronaut to land on the moon, I'll figure out a course of action to make it happen: he's the leader who gets to make the command decisions about what tasks should be done and in what priority; I'm just one of his grunts making those decisions happen.
But there are three things in which he has little say-so over: when he returns, he'd better be ready for a particularly resounding welcome home- and I sure hope some FReepers are a part of that shindig.
When he gets ready to relocate, we've pencilled in a FReeper convoy of a couple of largish [semitrailer] trucks to move his household goods to wherever he wants them [Florida, the White House, or Mars] and with the possibility of an RV for him and his family to travel in, a little more comfy than cramped up in the family sedan. I've got a minister and his flock in Georgia offering to throw a midpoint dinner and arrange an overnight stay if required, so that the move to Florida- if that's the one that happens- is a comfortable one. And a couple of Florida FReepers have been doing a little advance work for a potential West campaign, whether he wants to run for dogcatcher or senator, or something in between. Or above. His choice, but we'll help make it happen.
But what he does NOT get is a quiet retirement and a chance to catch up on his sleep. One way or another, his leasdership skills and experience are going to be put to use. He's the best judge of how that might best be done, but he is about to be drafted into the service of his fellow citizens once again, like it or not. I don't think he's a quitter or shirker who would turn that sort of challenge down. And if the voters choose his opponent instead, an honorable man with different opinions about priorities maybe, but with similar goals and motivations- fine. THEN Col West can get that well-deserved rest....
But something else will come along. The story, the SAGA of LTC Allen West has just begun. Iraq was just an early chapter.

What! A red-legged artillerist? Your poor sons will go deaf! I SAID DEAF!
I think LTC West is a fine officer and a good battalion boss. But how he managed to miss being commissioned as a tanker or in Special Forces, where his talents and methodology might have been more appreciated is beyond me. I loath lost opportunities....
Oh well. Every great man has some flaw....
