I'm Looking for "Patriot Act" Success Stories

Posted on 12/08/2003 12:16:58 PM PST by PureSolace

All week long I've been talking with other students at the school I go to about the pros and cons of the Patriot Act, and I was wondering if any freepers had any information to contribute. Does anyone have a list of success stories or embarrassments because of the Patriot Act? From the searches that I've done it seems most of the websites on the net are anti Patriot Act because they say it can be abused and target regular everyday citizens, and even peaceful protesters? (That one baffled me) Anyway, Any information or insight you guys can give would be wonderful. Thanks :)

I'm no aeronautical engineer, so I ask this sincerely. How does your comment square with the (IIRC) air hawaii jet that die to stress (again IIRC) had some of the side blow off. It landed safely, but there was some explosive decompression involved there.

Is it a function to the size of the hole?

So you are crediting the gubmint for giving jurisdiction to the justice department to pursue violations of laws that the INS (for example) does not enforce and calling it a Patriot sucess?

(I realize you did not make the original point, but work with me here.)

Can you say 'working on the wrong end of the problem'?

If the problem is with INS, why did we need the Patriot Act, a bill Aschcroft spoke eloquently against when Clinton tried to secure the same powers?

That's precisely what it is...

I was debating one of these nitwits one time and he actually said that if 3 million people were killed as a result of his interpretation of the Constitution then he was fine ith that.

In the end...I've found that the overwhelming majority of these types are nothing more than frustrated contrarians who rail against almost all authority. They are more anarchists who desire license than Patriots who desire freedom.

No I will not work with you until you acknowledge that capabilities the Justice Department and INS now have as a result of the Patriot Act enable them to find individuals who are here from other countries and acting in ways that are illegal.

Where did you get that information?

John Ashcroft himself was interviewed on Rush Limbaugh's show while he was gone...can't remember the host that day.

It sounds like all that has happened is a redeployment of resources to pursue cases against illegal immigrants.

That really has nothing to do with the Patriot Act and hardly begins to deal with the immigration problem the country faces. Should we be relieved that the federalis "Justice Department" is actively pursuing the barbarians the federalis let in through the front door?

See 103 and 109.

When you talk about deportations, it sounds like the Justice Department simply redeployed resources to go after known immigration/visa violators, i.e. enforcement of existing laws.

That is hardly a success story but sad commentary on the lack of debate on the immigration question.

9/11 changed nothing.

A buddy of mine joked that if the federal government's burning out of the seclusionist religious folks out in Waco stirred up enough resentment to restore our federal system he'd be willing to believe David Koresh was Jesus Christ. Alas...

Pitiful obfuscation.

It really must suck to wake up everyday on the wrong side of reality. Your bitterness will do more to bring about your demise than any law passed by the US Legislature.

Quite the contrary, it's very liberating to see the world without the filter of statist idolatry.

It is to know what it means to be an 'American' and a 'patriot' and there are few earthly things better than that.

The DOJ has a website on the use of the Patriot Act: The USA PATRIOT Act: Preserving Life and Liberty
Look around, you'll find a few specific successes there.

I just took a look at your home page. Well thought out positions and some impressive research. Looks like the Marines found one of the few good men. Thank you for your service.

You and those like you do more to safeguard the Constitution
than those who mutter that they never personally signed any social contract.

Yeah the other day a dopey college kid was rambling something similar to that on Hardball before he fawned over Howard Dean with a prefab question from the crowd.

At 40000 feet? Wrong.

How so?

If a plane were at 40,000 feet, a bullet through a window would create a loud whistling noise where the air rushed out due to the disparities in pressure. The airplane's designed hole to regulate this (the outflow valve) would shut immediately and the pressurization mechanisms would work harder to maintain the pressure.

At 40,000 feet though, it would certainly be wise for the captain to lower his altitude considerably with a bullet hole in the window. He should get down below 20,000 to ease the pressure disparity.

But there would be no Hollywood-style rapid decompression. That's only in the movies.

Meanwhile the rest of us are living in 2003 and face a credible threat of Nuclear, Chemical or Biological Terrorism....

I'm living under the same threat, but don't have piss running down my leg. Could be I am more rational in threat assessment. I'd say you are the nitwit.

Yeah, I noticed that as well.

They fling brilliant remarks from behind the keyboard but most of'em havent marched a single mile in full battle rattle.

The story of man.

That reminds me...I was watching a show on the history channel about the SS. During the program an old man who claimed to have been a part of the communist resistance in Chekoslovakia [sp?] came on and rambled about how effective they were against the Germans...and all I could think is how many real resistance fighters died fighting the Nazis while this dope baked bread.

How many war stories had this idiot told through the years that he wasnt a part of?
