President Bush's standing with the public has improved since his surprise Thanksgiving trip to Iraq amid signs of a stronger economy and following congressional passage of a prescription drug benefit under Medicare.

Bush's job approval was at 61 percent in the National Annenberg Election Survey conducted the four days after the holiday, up from 56 percent during the four days before Thanksgiving. Disapproval of the president dropped from 41 percent to 36 percent, according to the poll released Tuesday.

TIME magazine said that people hate Bush.

That cover was disgusting.

TIME magazine said that people hate Bush.

Just think of all the time, effort and expense the media have dumped into their anti-Bush campaign, especially since last summer. And what do they have to show for it? Rising poll numbers.

The story the press never tells is that Bush's personal approval rating is very high, now around 70. Clinton's personal approval rating was always way below his job approval. Job approval tends to trend with the economy anyway. Bottom line? People disliked Clinton and looked for reasons not to vote for him, where in contrast people like Bush and will look to reasons to vote for him.

Question for Freepers tuned in to public opinion:

Over the last few days I have read several analyses by angry libs who say that Bush's Baghdad trip will "backfire," like his carrier landing. They imply that that event was a PR disaster that turned the public against him. Aside from the hurt feelings of screeching leftists, I am not aware that the carrier landing and speech from the flight deck was anything other than a great moment for W. Did I miss something?

So why isn't this headline news in the media? Every time Bush's approval drops a point or two, it's headline news.

Because a drop in Bush's approval ratings indicates a "trend" (worthy of a headline); but an increase indicates a "blip" (unworthy of a headline).

I have a friend who is a Democrat and doesn't really care for Bush, but she told me that when she saw President Bush stride out on that stage in Bagdad she was so thrilled and very moved. It was a great moment in history!

Methinks the Dems are in heap big trouble. The sickening thing is that we have a golden opportunity and in NV, LA, OK, IL, and a couple of other states, we do not have big-name candidates running.

We literally could get 60 seats if a few of these self-interested people would sacrifice just this once to get a 2/3 majority in the senate!
