[history]
November 25, 2003 -- A sneak-attack caller yesterday launched Rush Limbaugh into a defense against charges he was a hypocrite for demanding tough sentences for drug users while he himself was taking black-market pain killers. "It's not hypocritical because my behavior doesn't determine the value of right and wrong - nobody's does," Limbaugh told listeners.

Has Rush been on his game since he came back? I haven't been able to listen.
To: kattracks
BTW his comment that right and wrong, are right and wrong no matter what he does, is the right comment to make. His actions don't determine what right and wrong are. He should continue with his commentary and let his listeners vote with their on/off switches.
To: kattracks
Rush didn't sound rattled to me. He took it in stride. And he cut the caller off, as he has always done when a caller uses false pretenses to get on the air.

And he could have blacked out that section with his delay switch. That he did not might indicate that it is something he was waiting for an opportunity to address.

Anyone have the ratings numbers that his return to air show were? I made a bet that they'd be in Guiness and I'm wondering....

I am sure there are a lot of parents out there who do not want their kids doing some of the stupid things they did as kids. Does that make them hypocrites?

Yes.

Good answer, for to answer differently would make you a closet liberal!

BTW his comment that right and wrong, are right and wrong no matter what he does, is the right comment to make.Superficially, yes. What would be hypocritical would be for him to have claimed that a Kennedy escaped justice by employing high priced legal talent. He has every right to avoid comment on his behavior and legal horizon. Frankly, I don't give a hoot one way or t'other.

Has Rush been on his game since he came back? I haven't been able to listen.D1, for whatever it is worth, I think he sounds more like the old Rush of the mid-1990's than he did recently.
Just my opinion, but I thought that in the last few years Rush was losing his edge, or perhaps just not caring as much as he used to about conservatism.
To me, at least, he sounds more like his old self.

I agree, JOHN MAINELLI probably thinks that he would be rattled by such a question, so Rush must have been.
To: kattracks
No, Rush's actions do not change what right and wrong are. Purchasing illegal drugs is wrong. I have also heard him say (since he came back) that people addicted to drugs should be treated medically, and not jailed. I believe this is a public change in attitude and a sign of growth.
One thing Rush hasn't done yet, that I would like to see him do one day, is apologize. What he did was wrong and he should say so. Right now, he can't do that. He is still in the middle of the legal part of this mess. When it is all behind him, it would be appropriate and would put this matter to rest, once and for all.
I have listened to him and I think he is back in great form. One thing I have noticed is that he doesn't have a tendency to go on *rants* the way he used to. He is calmer and more thoughful. Most importantly he is back on message .. talking about the things we want (and need) to hear about. Everyone makes mistakes and what is most important is learning from them. If you read this, it's good to have you back, Rush.

I remember several years ago when Rush defined someone dying
as "assuming room temperature". I remember specifically him using that term at the time of Curt Kobains(sp?) and the
homeless advocate Mitch Williams death.
When Rush's Grandfather died, a sneak caller asked him if his Grandfather "assumed room temperature" and Rush came unglued on the air. He never used the expression again to my knowlege.
Might that be a tad hypocritical?

Might that be a tad hypocritical? Not really, Rush's grandfather died of natural causes(IIRC at the age of 104), while Kurt Cobain and Mitch Snyder took the cowards way out and committed suicide, so it is kinda of hypocritical of you to compare Rush's grandfather to those two.

Yes - and I'm guilty.

Actually you are only guilty if you are continuing to do it, not that you did it. The latter is experience.
And it does not matter what you tell your kids. They will do what you do, not what you say.

Yes.Actually, no. Merely not wanting your children to do something that you did as a child does not make you a hypocrite.
