I called my wife just after I checked myself into rehab. She wanted to talk to the nurse, so I put the nurse on the phone. She asked the nurse whether the doctors could, since they were going to try to help me stop drinking, make me stop smoking too since I was going to be there anyway. Jeez! She brought me the cigarettes.

"Recovery" and "repentance" are polar opposites. One recovers from a disease (which doesn't require one to take personal responsibility for sin), but one repents of one's sin (which is the essence of taking personal responsibility).

I'm curious as to where you get this. You've really got this backwards, and I suspect its because you know little of the twelve step process. Accepting personal responsibility is a cornerstone of recovery. Using your terms "repentence" would be the very first step, and recovery is the process that follows from repentence to keep you clean. There are variation on twelve step programs, but here's a link to some prayers for one of them. Please tell me how this is inconsistent with the concepts of repentence and personal responsibility.

They go mostly after recreational drug users and all illegal suppliers, dealers or manufacturers.

If they went after him on this, that would be an exception to the norm.

Okay, you're right. I went a little overboard there. I experienced a flash of anger, the usual anger one feels when someone who doesn't have a clue makes a definitive and disparaging statement about a topic you know a lot about.
