Al Qaida commander 'anticipates' 100,000 Americans dead in attack

Special to World Tribune.com MIDDLE EAST MEDIA RESEARCH INSTITUTE Thursday, November 13, 2003 Al-Qal'a (The Fortress) an Islamist Internet forum, posted the first of a two-part interview with a person who introduced himself as Abu Salma Al-Hijazi, one of the Al Qaida commanders closest to Osama bin Laden.(1) The interview was conducted in Iraq, south of Faluja. The article notes that Al-Hijazi was surrounded by five masked men carrying missiles as well as personal weapons. The following are excerpts from the interview:

In regard to rumors about a large-scale attack against the U.S. during the month of Ramadan, Al-Hijazi said that "a huge and very courageous strike" will take place and that the number of infidels expected to be killed in this attack, according to primary estimates, exceeds 100,000. He added that he "anticipates, but will not swear, that the attack will happen during Ramadan."

He further stated that the attack will be carried out in a way that will "amaze the world and turn Al Qaida into [an organization that] horrifies the world until the law of Allah is implemented, actually implemented, and not just in words, on His land... You wait and see that the balance of power between Al Qaida and its rivals will change, all of a sudden, Allah willing."

Regarding Al Qaida detainees, Al-Hijazi said: "We follow their situation closely... the collaborating governments will pay the price for capturing these heroes who want to revive the glory of their nation and shake off the dust of humiliation and disgrace."

Al-Hijazi added that the "collaborating and treacherous" governments should know that Al Qaida has a long reach and its members enjoy popularity that will not end just because apostate governments detain hundreds of Al Qaida's members. "As soon as the governments detain one of our people, ten like him join us... this is no secret."

Al-Hijazi said that Al Qaida instructed its members not to confront the governments of Islamic countries and clarified that Americans are the main target of the organization, wherever they may be, in order to cause their disintegration and collapse, even if it takes a long time. "We are patient," he added, "our patience will only end with the collapse of America and its agents."

Al-Hijazi also said: "There is no doubt that the demise of America and its collapse will lead to the collapse of these fragile regimes that depend on it... We will not stop until we establish the Islamic Caliphate and until Allah's law is implemented in His land."

When asked about the recent bombing in Riyadh, Al-Hijazi referred to Saudi media reports — which claimed that in the attack Muslim women and children were killed — as "merely media deceit." He added: "This place was under surveillance for many months. Following a thorough investigation, it became perfectly clear to us that the people living there were at least 300 Americans and a large group of Lebanese Christians who had tortured Muslims there, in Lebanon, during the civil war. After consultation, we decided it was appropriate to attack this place and destroy it, including the people who lived there, because it housed Americans and a large majority of Christians holding Lebanese citizenship.

"Since the Saudi government is aware of the sensitivity of this place and that it is a declared target for Al Qaida, it surrounded it with very heavy security. However, we gave our people in Riyadh a green light to destroy it on top of those inside. Allah facilitated breaking into the place and bombing the part in which mostly Americans stayed. As a result, praise Allah, at least 40 Americans were killed, as well as 27 Christians from Lebanon, and a group of citizens who were Muslim; also, at least 70 Americans were injured, as well as more than 30 citizens of other countries, most of them Christians from Lebanon."

According to Al-Hijazi, a Saudi religious scholar who is wanted by Saudi authorities will claim responsibility in a televised communiqué for the bombing "and for other operations to come." He added that the wills of the attackers will be published, apparently, in the month of Shawwal — the month following Ramadan according to the Muslim calendar - when Al Qaida's main website, Al-Nida, is due to be reactivated.

Nope, Rama-lama-ding-dong ends somewhere around Thanksgiving

I have it ending somewhere around Nov 23. There's also a Muslim holiday called The Night of Destiny that will be occurring sometime in the last week of Rama-ding-dong. Also known as Night of Power, I would expect it to have special significance to the Jihadis

blah blah blah blah blah. All talk, no shock.

I think Richard Miniter's book - Losing Bin Laden - sums it up well... He talks about training camps and Koranic verses chanted during their training excercises.

It goes like this...

"I will be patient until patience is worn out from patience."

They could attack tomorrow, or it might not come together right. They will sit and wait until the time is right. One thing Americans do not have is patience, and in the end... that may be our biggest fault in this battle.

If this was in fact true - if terrorists were in possession of such devices, and the bombs were "in position" - they would certainly have been used already.

This makes perfect sense and I used to believe the same way 100%. To have weapons prepositioned and not to use them, risking discovery or degradation of the weapons, doesn't make sense. But then sometimes I think about the mindset and ideology of who we are up against and I realize that what makes sense to Islamists may not be the same as for you and me.

Let us imagine for a moment that it's true, that bin Laden has nukes in basements somewhere waiting to be used. The hard part, sneaking them in, is already done (according to the recent interviews, before 9/11). If we note how hard it is to find two men, Saddam and Osama, in a vast expanse of territory, it would be no easier for us to find these weapons. You can be sure they would be shielded and placed somewhere innocuous with no traffic. Why then haven't they been used?

If bin Laden (or whoever) wants to be the Mahdi, everything has to line up just right in his little magic show. He needs to be able to wave his wand at precisely the right moment, in order to agree as closely as possible with interpretations of the Islamic prophesies, and strike when some event of significance occurs. It might be on a certain date, or in response to an event, whatever will wow the Islamic man on the street. Al qaeda is, if nothing else, patient. They don't do anything rashly on impulse. They wait for the moment.

OTOH, all this blustering about WMD in the US could be total abject crap, just to scare us while they laugh. We really won't know unless something happens...or doesn't happen. As to the recent warnings for NY, LA, DC, there is really no sense in the gub'mint raising a big alarm and even worse, prompting an evacuation. Imagine the cost and chaos from such an evacuation. Idiots like Daleel and his buddies would like nothing better! And of course if we did evacuate, they would not strike. They would let the evacuation run its course, let us cry wolf, let us curse our stupidity and return to normal...then strike.

Which leads us back to the eternally good principle of not freaking out, there's absolutely nothing we can do about it if such weapons really are in place. Let's just live our lives, being watchful but not paralyzed with fear. And be thinking about what we would do, after...if it should come to pass.

We're going to find out, sooner or later,

If Osama will pray, to a smoking crater.

I think they are telling their followers that these natural disasters are from the hand of Allah. Therefore, bolstering the morale of these 11th century morons.

Not sure what you're talking about.

My own posts about the coincidences of the weird weather and the terror targets was a simple observation, leading to the question of whether any attacks have been rained out. It amuses me to think maybe they have.

See what I mean about posing with the longest barreled guns they can find? DEFINITELY some serious inadequacies these guys are making up for.

Of course, every minute of every day of their lives they're told not to think about sex, and they're not allowed near women under normal circumstances because they might think about sex (which they're told every minute of every day of their lives they MUST not think about) and they're lucky to ever find a wife...that might have something to do with the apparent obsession with phallic symbols.

I'd disagree to the extent that mass panic might prove more irksome for our Homeland defenders than a couple of hundred thousand collateral damagees. A better barometer of things known but better left unsaid might be keeping an eye on who stays in town that weekend versus who's hightailing it out for "scheduled" meetings.

I have thought of the same thing, if there were a planned mass attack the feds would be scrambling get a handle on it and try to get it stopped. Early warning to the public would be counter-productive.

And that's just from his research and logic. He doesn't claim any prophetic gifting at all, at least didn't at that time.

True enough.

Yet, even though we "wrestle not against flesh and blood but against principalities and powers in high places,"

. . .

our nation--even the church is not only wimping out or to apathetic about that realm of the war,

we aren't even dealing overly rationally with the Islamists and other Middle Eastern actors/nations.

Sigh.

Sheesh...it sounds like Skeletor's latest diabolical plan in a "Masters of The Universe" comic book.

Well, since I believe Osama has been laden to rest, he's a likely candidate for a Skeletor :)

As to others on about nothing happening...that's most likely. However, in an Al Qeada Spank-a-thon, Ramadan is the big turn on. Shrug, let's keep looking at the dates and paying attention. They WANT America humiliated on Ramadan.

No portion of the Consitution has ever been "temporarily set aside".

Lincoln defied a SCOTUS ruling and suspended Habeus Corpus for the duration of the War of Northern Aggression.
