Dayton gives hope to all of us that we too can be senators, after we bank our first noisome little 50 million, by working hard, and playing by the rules, or preferably, like Dayton, inheriting it.

Now it is washing away, causing all kinds of problems. They will blame President Bush. In the meantime lame duck dufus hires 178 more of his ilk.! The LA Times and the Chronicle remain silent. It is just maddening, the audacity of it all.!!!

We were there also till 11p ... looked like a good turnout of various groups, like FR and CR, YR, etc. It was difficult to tell, tho, who was who .. maybe for the future, we could wear some lapel pin or hat or something subtle to identify ourselves? hahaa, maybe a secret handshake?

It was VERY exciting to be there.. we saw our two Senators, Allen and Warner. I was really proud of both (which I don't often say of the latter). Am planning to return tomorrow night with teenage son who's shown interest.

God bless all the folks who organized this, the staffers putting in the long hours, our Senators and especially our fabulous president.

She said she did'nt know who the man was or why he was in there.

Did she ask? Or did she just meekly disrobe and then throw a fit after the fact?

Funny, even while in labor, I managed to say that wanted to wait to be examined until after the maintenance guy who was replacing a lightbulb left. Maybe I'm just weird?

Sorry I couldn't make it tonight Angelwood, I am not feeling very well, myself and my whole family is down with n intestinal virus, and the Senate Gallery is not the ideal place for dealing with that :-)

I remember that Trent wanted to be "fair" with the dems when there was a 50/50 split - but it's not 50/50 anymore.

You're probably right, but somebody should tell the Senate that Trend’s not in charge just now. Still, I’m confused about why the super majority vote is being imposed.

Remember that the filibuster is NOT indivisible. Ending the filibuster with regard to judicial nominees while leaving in effect with regard to ordinary legislation, is what the Republicans are trying (however inadequately) to accomplish.

Let me recap the "nuclear option" which I hope will be used:

Senator who favors the judicial nominees rises and says: Point of Order Mr. President. Doesn't the Advise and Consent clause require a majority vote on judicial nominees, and therefore isn't Cloture Rule unconstitutional if used against such a nominee?"

Vice President Cheney presiding for the occasion: "Let me check with my Parliamentarian." [Confers with Parliamentarian.] "The Chair determines that the Point of Order is correct. The Cloture Rule cannot be constitutionally applied to any judicial nominee."

That will be game, set and match, because a ruling of the Chair stands, unless overruled by a majority of the Senators present and voting. And the Democrats do not have a majority on this subject. Even if Snowe and Chaffe (R, supposedly) both turn squish and vote the wrong way, Miller (D, but honest) will vote the right way. That makes it 50-50. Cheney casts the tie-breaking vote, and the ruling stands.

The solution is there. All that is needed is the WILL TO DO IT. (And no, I'm not sorry for shouting.)

I called the Republican cloakroom, and told the guy who answered that "I'm a voter from NY, and I'm watching the proceedings on C-Span. We're very proud of our Republican Senators..." (he thanked me) "...and please tell them to stand strong - to hold firm, until they win this thing! So many of us are supporting them!" He said he would pass it along to them. I said, "One more thing, I can hardly wait until Lindsey Graham...oh, and tell them not to forget about MemoGate! They HAVE TO deal with this treasonous situation." He said he would.

I tried the Dem Cloakroom number, and got this recording:

"You have reached a non working number in the House of Representatives."

What to do??? Did UpChuck divert the number?

I have no idea how they found out, but I guess the oppo research on good Christians is a lot more thorough than on say a muslim cleric who wants to go to Guantanomo and 'minister' to our enemies.

People who answer the phone are STAFFERS; unless they want to give their name to the press, it's no business of ours to publish them.

Wow, Senator Dayton is absolutely the WORST public speaker I've seen in the Senate. He sounds like Kermit the Frog mumbling/stuttering a speech from a telepromper. How the heck did this guy defeat INCUMBANT Senator Grams in MN? Now that MN is run by the GOP, they should find some masterful orator to destroy this guy in the next election. Dayton's so bad I'd feel sorry if he had to debate just about anyone who's breathing.

Minneosota can go from two far-left socialist RAT senators to two conservative Republican senators in just a few years. Wouldn't it be great?

I called the toll free number, asked for the dem rep in the cloakroom; he was rude, crude and socially unacceptable. Told me to talk to my friends instead of him. I called the pubbie side and asked "whats up with that"? He apologied for them. Call the dem side of the cloak room, wake that guy up -- he is sleeping on the job. Go get em!
