A new message was posted in the last few hours by the Jeddah-based al-Qaeda-linked Al-Islah (Reform) society calling on Muslims to flee New York, Washington and Los Angeles in advance of major al Qaeda attacks in those cities. This is revealed by DEBKAfile.

The message accuses the United States of predetermining its end (doom) by its policies. ?The Jews rule the Pentagon by remote control and (are the cause) of Muslims being killed in every corner of the world. The United States should therefore expect more blows.?

The message is signed on behalf of the al Bayan (The Threat) movement by ?your warrior brother, Abul Hassan al Khadrami?.

Our Muslim expert identifies the name of the signatory as belonging to a Yemeni from Hadhrameuth, the Bin Ladens? place of origin where Osama enjoys substantial tribal support.

DEBKAfile?s counter-terror sources stress that warnings appearing on these forums are taken both very seriously and with caution by the intelligence services keeping track of the terrorist network?s electronic traffic.

Last November, Jeddah-based fundamentalist forums addressed a message to an Al Qaeda member, saying whoever understands ? understands; whoever knows, knows, but we are marching towards an operation that will take us to Paradise. Three days later, the Mombasa Paradise hotel was blown up killing 12 Kenyans and 3 Israelis and a failed shoulder-launched Strela anti-air missile missed an Israeli airliner at Mombasa airport.

To be honest:

I live in the suburbs of one of the high risk areas. I am far enough out a bomb wont kill us, but the fallout plume would possibly be a problem.


Early on I decided that the possibility of an attack with unconventional weapons was possible, and I designed a kit that the family could use as a resource if it was needed. I didnt waste my time on duct tape, but went to work on making sure my family had a real chance at survival in case of an unconventional attack. I decided it may never happen, but I wasnt going to get caught flatfooted if it did.

I found out that FEMA had sold a large cache of old Cold War era radiological survey meters at auction, and obtained two of them. One is a CDV-700 radiological survey meter (low range geiger counter) and the other is a CDV-715 ( high range ion chamber) . I also bought a few pocket dosimeters and a dosimeter charger. I sent each out to get them calibrated, and cached them. Total cost was about $120.00. Calibration cost 40 dollars a meter through resources I had learned about at my job. The dosimeters were calibrated by electrical leak tests.

Note that I was trained to use these items in the USN, and I use items like them every day at work. I have a basic level of familiarity with them, and know how to use them.

I also got a hold of a ten meter roll of US Army M-9 chemical detection paper , and a Bio Check field test package ( distributed by larus systems in Maryland). The Bio test package costs 22.00 per package and the M-9 cost 58.00. It gives you a very basic point detection capability. If I wanted to spend 1000 dollars more, I could have the capability of a HAZMAT team, but I dont need it for my family.

I also went to the site below and downloaded a copy of HOTSPOT modeling software. It runs various radiological disaster simulations and makes medical and radiation protection suggestions, as well as predicts fallout patterns from nuclear attacks. I loaded it on my laptop so if I needed to, I could use it to escape fallout areas and rad plumes from any attack scenario.

I also downloaded Chemical software called CAMEO from the EPA site that does the same thing and installed it on my laptop. Then I finished out by investing in about 400 dollars of canned goods, basic first aid equipment, and water.

After I got what I wanted, I then placed it all in a trunk case ( plastic case capable of holding loose components in a car trunk) that cost about 30.00 from Wal Mart and placed them in my English basement in an accessible place.

I personally dont think it is crazy to realize we are at war and we need to take steps to protect our families.I want my children to live to a ripe old age, so I decided it is reasonable to take these steps, and my wife concurred. If I deserve a tinfoil hat for being so anal about survival, I guess I earned it..LOL

It does give you some peace of mind.

A nuke alert would tell you radiation is above background limits and serve as a point defense mechanism to allow you to move to a safe area. It has a good use, but remember, some types of gypsum wallboard can be two to three times above background also. Use it as a field test mechanism and you will be fine.

Without detailed gamma scintillation capability or spectrum analysis capability, there is no knowing if Potassium Iodide is present. The Health Department or FRMAC will make public service announcements after lab tests to determine if KaI is needed, and direct people to take it.

If you have a radio or battery powered TV, listen for Emergency Broacast system announcements. If they direct it, take it.

Malden man sentenced in stolen-gas case

A Malden gas station owner was sentenced Wednesday to six months of home detention with electronic monitoring after pleading guilty to receiving 20,000 gallons of gasoline stolen from the Gulf Oil tank farm in Chelsea.

Malden resident Mihran Zeitounian, 49, owner of World Gas, 875 Main St., in Malden was also ordered to pay $23,800 in restitution and a $2,000 fine by U.S. District Judge George A. O'Toole and sentenced to three years probation.

Three other defendants in the case have already pleaded guilty to stealing the gasoline, according to a press release from the U.S. Attorney Michael J. Sullivan's office. Frank Romano, an employee of the Gulf facility, and Miguel Carlo, a driver for one of the independent companies that transported gas from the site, both reportedly pled guilty to stealing 10,000 gallons of gas by tapping into a pipeline in a remote part of the facility and filling a tanker truck with fuel. Carlo then allegedly delivered the stolen gas to World Gas that morning, on May 7, 2001, where Zeitounian paid him $8,000 in cash.

The price of 80 cents per gallon represented a 50 percent discount off the price Gulf was charging retail stations at that time.

A second theft containing another 10,000 gallons reportedly occurred on May 21, 2001, and involved Roman, Carlo and Michael Richards, another defendant who plead guilty to the theft charges. Gulf management reportedly caught this theft on videotape. This second load of stolen gasoline was also delivered to Zeitounian's gas station in exchange for $8,000 in cash.

Carlo, 33, of Randolph, and Richards, 36, of Tewksbury, each pleaded guilty in November 2001, to two counts of stealing gasoline from interstate shipments of fuel. Carlo and Richards are both scheduled to be sentenced by Judge O'Toole on Feb. 5. Romano, 54, of Weymouth, pleaded guilty in July 2002 for his role in the scheme and was sentenced by Judge O'Toole to two years probation, the first six months of which were to be served in community confinement.

The case was investigated by the FBI and was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Joshua S. Levy in Sullivan's Economic Crimes Unit.

Thanks for your insight. I have never been to Saudi Arabia so your knowledge of the politics and culture is way ahead of mine. It is my understanding that there are a couple of thousand Saudi princes and they control all aspects of the government and military. Is the dissension within the Saudi military large enough to allow a coup? Do you believe that a coup in S.A. is more likely than a coup within Pakistan? It seems that Al-Queda and other fundamentalist muslims are thick in Pakistan. It also seems that there are many more frontier/lawless areas of Pakistan, but, again, I defer to your expertise. What do you think the ramifications of a Saudi coup would be for America?

Security Guard Found Shot at United Nations

UNITED NATIONS — A U.N. security guard was found dead with a gunshot wound to the head in an apparent suicide committed inside U.N. headquarters on Monday, police said.

Michael Holton's body was found in a third floor lounge shortly before noon. Two officers had been sent to check on Holton after he did not return to his duty station following a break, said Michael McCann, the U.N. security chief.

McCann told a news conference the incident was the first of its kind inside the United Nations (search) buildings.

Holton, 41, was found in a lounge area where U.N. employees often take their breaks. He was seated in one of the chairs and his gun -- believed to be a Glock 9mm pistol -- was on the chair next to his leg, McCann said.

Holton, of West Sayville, N.Y., was a 16-year veteran of the U.N. security department and was married with two children, McCann said. He was a U.S. citizen.

"We extend our heartfelt condolences to his family," the security chief said. "Michael was a terrific officer ... very personable, very friendly, somebody that greeted everybody in a positive manner."

Asked whether the death might have been a suicide, McCann said the incident was under investigation by the New York Police Department (search) and by the FBI (search).

Police and FBI officials had no immediate comment. But a police source said the shooting was believed to be a suicide.

A 911 caller in the U.N. security office had reported that "a male shot himself in the head," the source said.

McCann said there was no prior indication of psychological problems and that no note was left near the body. He said there were no witnesses and no one was known to have heard anything unusual.

"He's one of my officers; someone well respected. It's not easy answering these questions," McCann told reporters.

He said the U.N. security force has lost two other officers this year: one to cancer and one in the crash of a Staten Island ferry in October.

The United Nations has about 180 security officers at its New York headquarters.

A spokesman for U.N. Secretary-General Kofi Annan said Annan was "very sad" about Holton's death and extended his condolences to the family.

Problem here is, not all the Muslim charities and foundations are registered.

I've found no more than a total of 3 records. AND, they aren't even accurately recorded.

Then I've done searchs for actual names of places I know. None are in there.

If they aren't listed at the state level, I REALLY doubt they would be listed federally.
