Al Qaeda again threatens New York, Washington and Los Angeles - Daily Terror Threat

Monday, November 3, 2003

A new message was posted in the last few hours by the Jeddah-based al-Qaeda-linked Al-Islah (Reform) society calling on Muslims to flee New York, Washington and Los Angeles in advance of major al Qaeda attacks in those cities. This is revealed by DEBKAfile.

The message accuses the United States of predetermining its end (doom) by its policies. ?The Jews rule the Pentagon by remote control and (are the cause) of Muslims being killed in every corner of the world. The United States should therefore expect more blows.?

The message is signed on behalf of the al Bayan (The Threat) movement by ?your warrior brother, Abul Hassan al Khadrami?.

Our Muslim expert identifies the name of the signatory as belonging to a Yemeni from Hadhrameuth, the Bin Ladens? place of origin where Osama enjoys substantial tribal support.

DEBKAfile?s counter-terror sources stress that warnings appearing on these forums are taken both very seriously and with caution by the intelligence services keeping track of the terrorist network?s electronic traffic.

Last November, Jeddah-based fundamentalist forums addressed a message to an Al Qaeda member, saying whoever understands ? understands; whoever knows, knows, but we are marching towards an operation that will take us to Paradise. Three days later, the Mombasa Paradise hotel was blown up killing 12 Kenyans and 3 Israelis and a failed shoulder-launched Strela anti-air missile missed an Israeli airliner at Mombasa airport.

Agreed, things are often not what they seem, most especially when any kind of intelligence operation is involved.

You can be sure that over the years some things have been stopped that we'll never hear about, possibly even over the past couple of weeks. Not merely temporarily averted by going on high alert, but with the individuals involved and/or their physical weapons put out of action (hopefully permanently).

I don't know if dropping to yellow is a huge gamble or not - it depends on how much they know about what was averted, what had caused the orange alert in the first place, and what kind of elevated alert the remaining sectors are still under. (Note that we probably don't know all of the details of what remains on elevated alert!).

However all intelligence is always a gamble to some extent - and it's unlikely we'd be able to prevent everything even if we're on Red. Hopefully whatever does get through isn't on the scale of some of what's been discussed with entire cities being destroyed etc.

Just to add to that.... VFR planes are not required to even have their transponders ~on~, though most ~do~ as a smart practice to help themselves to be seen. An aircraft without a transponder over a rural area may not be seen until he is quite high.... more than a few thousand feet.

By the way, that poem about the lion of Islam is on the bottom of several of the Global Islamic Media messages too.

The metaphor of the "lion" in Arabia is pretty strong. Anyone remember seeing the film Lion of the Desert 15 or 20 years ago with Anthony Quinn? It was rumored at the time to be financed by Kadaffi. Or The Wind and the Lion with Sean Connery and Candace Bergen (good movie!).

Another thing that occurs to me - the standard Islamist babble is usually hyper-inflated: to hear them tell it, they "conquered" New York on 9/11. Yeah, right, they destroyed about 5 large buildings and killed about 3000 people, but they forgot to tell that to the other 25,000,000 who live in the NY metro area.

If that amount of damage means they "conquered" New York in any reasonable sense of the word, Hitler would have been walking down the streets of London in the 1940's, and we all know what happened to him!!

Thanks HOTD. We were reading a post about stolen planes from Brazil. Pilot killed and everything.

You are right - it is hyperinflated. History lesson...

I remember my first trip to Egypt. I flew in on October 5, 1982, one day before the first anniversary of the assassination of Anwar Sadat. Now I vaguely remembered that October 6 was the anniversary of the Sadat assassination but I really wasn't paying too much attention. The next day everyone was off work. It seemed kind of strange, but hey - it wasn't my culture! Then I realized that the country was in a festive mood. There were parades, and all sorts of commemorative military programs on TV. Talk about feeling a HUGE disconnect.

So I asked what the heck everyone was celebrating. I was told that they were celebrating the October the 6th war with Israel. So I sat there quietly for a few minutes, did a mental review of the history of the Arab/Israeli conflict, and this didn't make sense. So I asked the question that I was teased about until the day I left Cairo in 1989: Why in the world are you guys celebrating a war you lost?

They thought I was insane! What? Egyptians lost the 1975 war with Israel? According to the Egyptian perspective, the war was a huge victory. I was quickly acquainted with the facts according to the Egyptian government: The Egyptians attacked the Israelis, crossed the heavily fortified and impossible to penetrate Bar Lev line at the Suez Canal, and fought bravely until the Americans and Kissinger had to intervene to save the Israelis from defeat. (Sadat was assasinated by Islamic fundamentalists at a parade celebrating the 1975 war, largely because of his crackdowns on Islamic fundamentalists in Egypt, his pro-western views, and because of his willingness to made peace with Israel.)

Course I'm sitting there thinking "what alternate reality did THIS happen in!". But from their perspective, the Egyptians had won - after all, they were at peace with Israel, the US was pouring huge amounts of foreign aid in to stimulate the Egyptian economy and build a private sector, and they had just gotten back the Sinai peninsula.

I see... Well, keep in mind that my statement is about rural areas inland that ATC doesn't watch all the way to the ground....

We are actually looking for low planes over the borders and approaching our shores... Those guys get spotted.

I'm trying to get caught up on some postings that I'm way behind on - sorry for taking so long, the last week has been hectic.

There has been talk about the symbolic meaning of the number "19" in Islam. I ran across this in my files and thought it might be of interest. It seems that there is a group claiming to be a branch of Islam that calls itself the "Khalifites" or "19ers".

According to the website http://www.allaahuakbar.net/khalifites/index.htm "This group is actually outside the fold of Islaam and its adherents are not considered Muslims. Its founder, Rashid Khalifah, came up with a mathematical formula around the number 19 and claimed that the Qur'ân was constructed around this number. "

Anyway for what it's worth - I assume that the more knowledge we have, the better.

The article in this post is one of the most comprehensive I've read. For those who are behind this is a good read plus there are items in there I had not seen before.

Thanks for posting this.

Excerpt"That possibility raised a range of questions: Might al-Qaeda strike a day early or a day late from the dates mentioned by the source? Would the group target return flights from the USA to Europe? Would it make sense for terrorists to seize control of a jet that was about to land in the USA after it had used most of its fuel flying from Europe? Or might terrorists hijack and crash a jet just after it took off from a U.S. city with a full fuel tank, so there would be a more devastating explosion?

And what might be hijackers' ultimate target? U.S. authorities mapped out the paths of the flights cited by the new source, searching for clues to potential targets on the ground within a 200-mile swath.

I have previously thought if they choose to attack with a plane, the approach path or take off would be important since they wouldn't have much time to detonate. It would have to be a large city or near a nuclear facility to get the most bang for their buck. LAX takes off over the ocean. John Wayne takes off over the ocean but near one of those facilities depending on the destination of the flight. San Francisco approach used to be over the Bay, probably still is. The DC, LV & NY airports are, I would think, the most tempting for them.

"deadly botulism or ricin toxins was being actively prepared."

Well then, this means they could carry this out anywhere doesn't it?

Source gave U.S. details of new (terror) plot (by Al Qaeda)

WASHINGTON — The nation's recent Code Orange terror alert was triggered by a new U.S. intelligence source that, for the first time since the 9/11 attacks, allowed officials to get specifics about how al-Qaeda was planning to use international flights for imminent attacks in the USA, four top government officials say.

Heavenly Father, we return to give You thanks that those in authority over us continue to seek every means to protect our shores, our skies, our cities, our resources. Thank You that there are those who do not need the accolades of man, but covet, foremost, the safety and security of their countrymen. Mightily bless their efforts, I pray, O God ... thousands upon thousands of them unnamed, but each vigilant in their task. We praise You for each one ... reward their efforts, I pray, with endless days when the shedding of innocent blood has been prevented.

We again pray, Eternal God, that You would bring forth all those who now stand in the shadows, planning evil deeds. Shine the light of justice upon them and render them powerless. Continue to gather the nations together that we would be united in our efforts against a common enemy ~ may we never be anything less than a freedom loving people, fierce in protecting our liberty, and the liberties of others. Let righteousness reign on earth, for this is Your will. Guard and protect those who come to our defense in this quest, in the Name of Jesus, I pray, Amen ...

That's why after 9-11 many small aircraft and especially crop dusters were grounded for a long time.

Amusing take on the Egyptian perspective . . . thanks for sharing that. I still remember the same thing in the press reports from the Iran-Iraq war . . . both sides claiming constant annihilation of the other . . . with total disregard for reality. That's the biggest disconnect for us Westerners . . . we just can't fathom how easily extreme lying/exaggerating comes to Middle-Easterners.
