[history]
Monday, November 3, 2003
A new message was posted in the last few hours by the Jeddah-based al-Qaeda-linked Al-Islah (Reform) society calling on Muslims to flee New York, Washington and Los Angeles in advance of major al Qaeda attacks in those cities. This is revealed by DEBKAfile.
The message accuses the United States of predetermining its end (doom) by its policies. ?The Jews rule the Pentagon by remote control and (are the cause) of Muslims being killed in every corner of the world. The United States should therefore expect more blows.?
The message is signed on behalf of the al Bayan (The Threat) movement by ?your warrior brother, Abul Hassan al Khadrami?.
Our Muslim expert identifies the name of the signatory as belonging to a Yemeni from Hadhrameuth, the Bin Ladens? place of origin where Osama enjoys substantial tribal support.
DEBKAfile?s counter-terror sources stress that warnings appearing on these forums are taken both very seriously and with caution by the intelligence services keeping track of the terrorist network?s electronic traffic.
Last November, Jeddah-based fundamentalist forums addressed a message to an Al Qaeda member, saying whoever understands ? understands; whoever knows, knows, but we are marching towards an operation that will take us to Paradise. Three days later, the Mombasa Paradise hotel was blown up killing 12 Kenyans and 3 Israelis and a failed shoulder-launched Strela anti-air missile missed an Israeli airliner at Mombasa airport.

re your post no. 10,237....
PERSONAL OPINION: After years of cyber-surfing links of interest (including jihad & extremist islamist sites); I am of the opinion that jihadis ARE NOT pro-life...therefore their lives are of little value except as that of a tool of jihad -- a "martyr" for the cause. Now, some of the jihadis are beyond hate -- they are plain stupid. They fall for the line that paradise is right at hand and they can have whatever they want as soon as they blow themselves up. According to news reports, allegedly some families received money as soon as one of the family members "successfully" martyred themselves. And now there's even some who are encouraging sick individuals to blow themselves up for the jihadi cause because afterall they are going to die anyway.
What all of the jihadis who blew themselves up or were going to blow themselves up or are going to blow themselves up have failed to ask themselves is, "HOW COME THE ELDERS WHO ARE ENCOURAGING ME TO BECOME A MARTYR DON'T LEAD BY EXAMPLE AND BLOW THEMSELVES UP FIRST?" Now, wouldn't that answer be a real eye-opener. (/end of personal opinion)

This is a quick and dirty translation - I'm in the middle of something right this second and will fine tune it. It is rather strange. I'll revisit this later this evening.
The wording is very unusual. Why are they transliterating the Arabic instead of using Arabic characters?
Also they are using the plural form of Your which is very formal.

Wow Mom good find!
No injuries were immediately reported in the blast, which occurred around 11:15 p.m. Monday. The cause of the explosion remained under investigation. "It was quite a boom. They heard it probably 20 miles away," Mayor Neal Gilbertson said.

re your post no. 10,255...
I think that Iran (at least a certain segment of it) is slowly starting to change. I believe a Christian missionary would be welcome there by a certain segment of the society --- even if they don't agree with the Christian teachings. Now, I may be wrong about this, but again, maybe not.
I do agree with you that Iran, like Iraq (which does have Christians over there) are dangerous places.
I'll pray for your sister.

Interesting article from the AP:
WASHINGTON (AP) - The Energy Department should improve safeguards to keep foreign scientists who work at government research labs from gaining unauthorized access to sensitive information, the agency watchdog said in a report Wednesday.
The report said investigators found that foreigners were "assigned to potentially sensitive projects without authorization" or adequate background checks or checks against lists of banned individuals that are kept by other agencies.
The issue of foreigners working at the federal weapons labs has been a sensitive one for years.
"The department and its partners benefit from the exchange of information that results from these collaborations," wrote the department's inspector general, Gregory Friedman. "However, inherent in any foreign collaboration are certain security vulnerabilities."
In an examination of nearly 200 cooperative research projects at three labs - Sandia and Los Alamos in New Mexico and Oak Ridge in Tennessee - auditors found cases in which officials failed to use available security controls when it come to work by foreigners.
"The department expects the national laboratories to take precautionary safeguards to prevent unauthorized disclosure of any information which could adversely affect U.S. security," the report said.
Among the incidents cited was a decision at Los Alamos to assign a Chinese scientist - and later a Russian scientist - for work on a project involving biological sensors without conducting adequate background checks. A Chinese scientist's work in nanotechnology also was cited as raising concerns.
Lists from the Commerce and State department did not flag this research as a potential security problem. A Defense Department list, unchecked by Los Alamos, did classify it as sensitive. The biological sensors provide "early warning tools" against chemical or biological weapons, the report said.
Also cited in the report were:
-A case involving the Oak Ridge laboratory where five foreigners were assigned to sensitive technology research "without evidence of proper authorization." Among them was an Indian scientist who was involved in research considered sensitive by the Defense Department, but not by other agencies. India is a country on the sensitive list.
-At Sandia, security documents for work on classified projects were not promptly submitted for approval.
The report said there was no evidence in lab files to show that in the 198 agreements that were examined, laboratory officials checked people involved in the research with lists of businesses, individuals and countries with whom the lab is prohibited from doing business.
The National Nuclear Security Administration, which oversees the weapons labs, disputed the contention that the Energy Department "as a whole had not adequately controlled access to sensitive technologies" or that it risked compromising sensitive technologies.
"In no case did we discern that laboratory employees were inappropriately assigned to any project cited in the report," wrote Michael Kane, an associate administrator at the security agency. He acknowledged "selected security processes that could be improved."

Re: 10251
He left out Cuba.
About 5 years ago, when the clintons were still in Our White House, the then head of Russia went to China, North Korea and Cuba. As this is from my memory, I can't recall if there were other countries on the visit, but do remember that it upset me that he could obviously be putting something together and clinton paid no attention.
Piper, you did all the things that I worked so hard to keep my daughter from doing in the 70's (she is now more square than me).
Watching Al Jolson in the movies, gave me the desire to be a chorus girl (never got there).
Raced motorcycles, but most of the time, there was only one bike running, come race day, so I was the pit crew and first aid for all the riders. Still grab my water jug and wet towel and run, when one falls off. Once on the highway, years later, I went running with water jug and it turned out to be someone that I had known years before.
We walk the path God assigns us, kinks and all, if not we will never get to the end.
I am proud of you.

If you value marriage which most do at FR, he does not need to spend millions for a marriage initiative. My nephew is a very Christian young man who vote for his belief in virginity. He now is going to be a Dad and not married . But he is serving in our military. He's made a mistake but does he need the marriage program?!
