The ArmaLite® Post-PostBan Rifle Program
Fact: Unless reauthorized or replaced with a worse program, the Assault Weapon Act of 1994 will expire in September, 2004.
Possible outcomes are:
Reauthorization, i.e. no change in the law.
Replacement with a worse law, even to the possibility that production is halted.
Expiration of the law.
Expiration for only a short time, and then be reauthorization or worse.
The AW Ban is a cosmetic law, and wed all like to own rifles without the blemishes that it established. If the law expires, theres plenty of time to wait for a new rifle with pre-ban characteristics. If any of the other three outcomes occur, a delay could be a real mistake. The purpose of the PPB program is to prepare purchasers for any outcome.
The program offers customers a way to avoid the risk of delay, yet also have the benefits of a change in law. The opportunity is provided by the design of ArmaLites® 2003 rifles.
1. Beginning immediately, ArmaLite® 2003 rifles (with a pinned muzzle brake, or none installed) ship with a certificate that will provide customers a pin-on flash suppressor and installation instructions at no charge. Unless earlier legislation makes it illegal for customers to install the device, flash suppressors will ship in summer 2004 to allow time to get the rifle modified even if theres an opportunity of only a few days.
Until the law changes, the flash suppressor will provide a reminder to every customer that it is essential to get out the vote in 2004.
2. For customers who wish to go an extra step and install a bayonet lug, ArmaLite® will continue to sell pin-on sight bases with bayonet lugs, and will provide installation instructions for gunsmiths. All ArmaLite® clamping front sight bases are easily removable, with no pin-holes in the barrel, so pin-on bases can be easily installed.
3. For customers who wish to be able to convert their rifle to a Pre-Ban configuration immediately upon expiration, ArmaLite® will produce and sell AR-10 collapsing buttstocks (the AR-10 requires a special collapsing buttstock). It is likely that prompt installation of such a buttstock will allow customers to make other changes at a more leisurely pace.
Installation of options 2 and 3 both are already available for law enforcement customers (with proper rifle markings). Civil customers must await a change in the law, and flash suppressors, bayonet lugs, and collapsing stocks will all be accompanied by clear information about the law to prevent a violation.
4. Pre-2003 rifles with pinned front sight bases or threaded-pinned-welded brakes, or customers who wish threaded brakes on 2003 models instead of pinned ones, require gunsmith or factory replacement of those parts. ArmaLite® offers the components for sale, and will perform conversions at normal shop charges.

"Guns in that neighborhood wouldn't help you." Well now you know what the tanks are for.
To: Rhoderic
What are you on about?
Communities without law and order are precisely that way BECAUSE guns aren't allowed(urban areas in Democrat control typically have the strongest gun control ordinances.)
Home invasion in the US is far lower than in Britain and other countries with strict gun control. Why? because burglars know they can get shot here. That pokes a hole in your point.
Most killings in these dangerous areas might be blamed on the drug traffic, which I count as a different type of life and situation than regular people in their homes.
As for dying while protecting your property---yeah, but that's only if the entire area's ne'er'do-wells decided to attack you in a coordinated effort. Oh, and assuming you stand alone.
But when has that happened?
And what the hell is that post supposed to mean? I mean it makes little sense.
As for having a gun not delaying his fate--are you idiotic? Heard of the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising? Sure, it was eventually put down, but imagine if more communities had firearms and other weapons and the will to use them.
And by the way, because you might or even probably will die defending your life or freedom does not mean you should lay down and accept your fate. have you no honor, no will to live, no courage?

Ya, I know. This is where we're loosing big too. It seems as though the dems can play by diff rules when it comes to appts esp to the judiciary. As a party they seem to be missing a backbone OR they just support what gets them browny pts.

You really need to study some better data than what you've been reading.
Russia has a higher murder rate, and we now know that even during the USSR days, it had a higher rate. It's gun control programs were a tad more effective, but they eclipse us in murders with blunt instruments, stabbings, etc.
Our murder rate with NON-firearms is higher than a lot of countries(but not all) in the industrialized world, it is a cultural phenomenon and some of it can be blamed on the Drug War as well. We have more suicides by firearm, because it is an available implement, but women do not typically kill themselves this way. Despite our suicide rate, Japan's is MUCH higher and they accomplish this without firearms.
The fact is, these rates have NOTHING to do with gun ownership or whether or not they are locked up.
You really sound like a troll, because I do not see how you have not encountered the truth up to this point.

What makes you think Im not? I never said I didnt understand where the NRA stood on the AW sunset. I asked if theyve made a stmt concerning Bush's willingness to sign an extension.
As for the NRAs influence...yes, but not nearly so as real people writing to their reps multiple times on the same issue. If gun owners would get off their collective duffs thered be no (not much anyhow) need for the NRA in the political field. The money better spent on shooting than lining lawyers/activists pockets.
Sorry, I dont recall Bush making mention of the AW sunset during the election.
Anymore, the dems and rebuplicans are blending so theres little distinction. Its just a matter of which is worse than the other. The spector of a renewal isnt going forward.

The dems and the Republican Parties aren't blending. With the CCW fights in Wisconsin, Missouri and Ohio, you should be able to see both sides in action. Yes, there are a few RINOs in power but that's not the entire party. The three CCW fights are going on right now. I'll ping you when we get a live feed to the House or Senate floors.
By the way, did you call the Ohio Governor's office today? It's a quick phone call and say that you support CCW and HB12.

"I will not support GWB if he signs such an extension and I am certain I represent a whole lot more people who feel the same way and it will be a close election." I agree with you but I will even go a step further in saying that the political calculation Rove - if it was his idea - or Bush is a huge mistake in that I will not help him even now, a full 11 months before the ban comes up for renewal. I will not put my time, effort, and reputation into promoting him now and have to reverse myself later. His pronoucement will cost him early money and early support.

Fitting.
Found this blurb, which may explain his reasoning. Not justifying his reasoning, just pointing to the possibility that he may be suffering from battle fatigue.

Aside from the obvious feature of being able to bayonet wounded woodchucks [that's a joke, son], can anybody give me any practical reason to go to all the trouble to convert it into a PPB configuration?Collectibility.
