an update on this pilot if you can.

I have to assume that he landed, because I never heard anything else from him. Last I heard he was at 1100 (alt).

I hear you about the Jockeys. LOL.

I just hope the rudder was amidships when it broke.

Thanks much! I heard the initial report and then nothing after that -- we must cover the Peterson case everywhere! (saracasm)

I believe it went from Devore north, turned right into Summit Valley, up to Cedar Pines, then to Cedar Glen....

I was told (by a resident of Big Bear) that certain wilderness in his area are off limits unles yu buy a $35.00 permit. In fact, stopping your car constitutes a violation without a sticker. Unbelieveable!

KFI'ing it still? I have not listened to them all day, since Handel was in a chopper at 8 a.m. hotdogging around for show. I thought that was pitiful. I hope their coverage got better.

almost doubling back to hit Crestline, isn't it?

You are SO asking the wrong person.

What I don't know about California local geography could fill a book.

Chopper feeds are gone -- had to land due to darkness, clouds, and smoke. MSNBC has NASA and video headlines. Anyone still online with a live feed?

CH 9 said he tried to hitch a ride up hwy 38 with FFs. They said he appeared to NOT be a FF. Cops real interested in the lad.

I guess I'd be interested as well. Could be a BG, or just someone that really wants to help out. He could probably help a lot more by providing food, water, and a place for some FF's to sleep (if he's genuine, that is).

If not for Free Republic, folks like me would have zero knowledge of this event, not to mention many others.

You can say that again. All the cable news have turned into tabloid news instead of real news. MSNBC is getting ready to cover the fires but then Don King is after that -- who CARES! Fire is burning in Cedar Glen on Lake Arrowhead -- houses on Hook Road and Lake Glen Road have been burned down. Valley of Enchantment lost 5 houses from the Devore fire that came up and around. Fire may be headed toward Big Bear according to the KFI reporter at Lake Arrowhead. Winds blowing hard and pushing the fire right toward Big Bear.

They reported last night that Arrowhead and Crestline were both out of danger. This morning I heard that some of the backfires they set had backfired on the firefighters when the wind picked up. Now saying there are heavy gust of winds in the Arrowhead area.

With the wind shifting to coming form the south, it set the disaster in place, it's pushing where they held the line at Hwy 18 right in to the heaviset beetle infested areas.

Containment? Out of danger? Dangerous words to use regarding any fire. Mother Nature and Murphy are always present to rip the rug out.
