There is good and bad in everything I guess. Some other concerns I have are that when a thread crosses 100 posts a great many casual passers-by don't bother following it any further. The remainder of the thread just becomes a 'chat site' for those who are truely dedicated.
And without any controversial catchy HEADLINE, the masses of casual visitors may never even see whatever information is posted inside.
Plus, sometimes there REALLY IS an important front page, or breaking news headline that deserves its own thread. Burying the story inside a 'daily-threads' at post #437 for example, will in my opinion limit the number of non-Terri-activists from noticing it to maybe 5% of those who'd see it as a stand-alone.
I certainly DO appreciate people's efforts here, yet I'm still undecided if I like the idea of all Terri's stuff posted in one huge daily bottomless pit.
Does anyone know if F.R. has a search function that searches THROUGHOUT all the text of a range of posts? I know that MANUALLY trying to search thru that mega-deep LKL thread the other day was very painful. I kind of like Terri threads being already pre-sorted by topic so that the search function works.
Another thing... I'm going to ping a number of friends and Terri fans for their opinions, and I believe without doing so, VERY FEW people would even notice this. I welcome other opinions on WHY one huge deep mega-post each day is better than what has been successful up until now, at helping Terri's cause.
I'd also be interested in seeing F.R. stats on visits per thread to study what works, and what doesn't.
Since it is now past midnight eastern time a new thread will replace this one soon. Please REPLY HERE regarding your PROS or CONS of ONE HUGE CONSOLIDATED Terri-thread instead of topic-specific individual ones.
Pinging Terri's Army for additional input.
Would be a challenge--anyone up to the task? A designated poster for the daily thread would be helpful.
Google's advanced search can help somewhat.
Sometimes I can get to buried FR material by doing an advanced search on Google.
I first do a search limiting the domain searched to freerepublic.com and then, after checking the results, I repeat the search using FR's numerical equivalent 209.157.64.200
The advanced search is helpful because I can fool around with the search words. Different forms of particular words can be searched at the same time -- for example bulemia/bulemic or collapse/collapsed/collapsing. On Google, I fill in the box next to the phrase "with at least one of the words." I try to think of ways someone might actually phrase something... It is a different kind of approach than a keyword search.
I can do a search requiring the word "terri" must be in the results and, at the same time, requiring any one of these words be included --- collapse collapsing collapsed. Or I can do a search requiring terri and either one of these words bulimia bulemic.
Each time I do an advanced search I choose the "return 100 results" option.
Some of the Google results are duplicates because google also returns FR KEYWORD pages and USER POSTS web pages which actually have the same posts on them as the regular pages do. But it is fairly easy to quickly skim through the results.
