Phelan is here abutting Victorville/Hesperia so if you can see it, you must see the smoke pouring up out of the Pass, too. I went outside about dusk and the wind direction has changed and seems to be coming out of the SW. We are covered in smoke now. I hope you're okay.

Goodnight, nic. THANKS for monitoring the CHP site.

Re your 2171:
Smoke can be seen as far away as Palm Springs I'm in western AZ, approx 150 miles east of the fires. Right after the sun went down this evening, while the sky was still light, we could very clearly see the smoke over there . . . . a long, long line of smoke across the western sky.
I would love it if Arnold's first act as Governor would be to abolish all the idiot environmental laws and return common sense to the people. I'd love to hear him tell the citizens to clear deadwood in the forests and cut down whatever bushes you want on your own property.

Good night all, see you in the morning....Stay safe.

KNBC's Paul Moyer: 80,000 residents are in the Big Bear/Lake Arrowhead region.
That's a lot of homes, lainie.
I wish we would get a Julian update. I am really praying for that town to survive.

True, but there's still a lot of side discussion (not that that's bad, mind you, but it gets difficult to keep track of stuff that way). Last night, I started a no-discussion news thread for folks who were looking for current fire info as it was found, and it acted as a secondary thread to the main one. Just wanted to know if there was an interest in another thread like that again.

Did you see their reports -- the three alphabet guys only reported for a short period for their national newscast to get their mugs on the air from SoCal. After that news went south again!

well actually his statement wasn't idiotic..major problem brewing with the yellowstone caldera..he was right about that...even the govnt has asked scientists to soft peddle broadcasting their data. As for my remarks...why borrow trouble...we got hell going on here right now. If it were to blow..the way I feel tonight..I would just stand outside and say.."take me now Lord."

Those pics are frightening.....I can't believe how bad this is. All the years I lived in So. California (about 25), we never had to deal with this much devastation.....I may have moved, but So. Calif. is still a huge part of my life (and I still have family there, my 18 year old daughter's out there, too).
Good night again, everyone......

"Scuttlebutt from San DIego,..Some of those military being evacuated from base housing were also being told by the housing folks they would have to pay for their temporary lodging up front before they received a key,..." Unfortunately, this is the way the military operates. No one has less class than DoD Finance people.

Good night, BG, and yw.....you're very lucky. Every time I checked Orange County, no fires. May God continue to keep you safe.
